Cancel sfc /scannow: "There is a system repair pending which requi..."

On sfc /scannow
"There is a system repair pending which requires a reboot to complete. Restart windows and run sfc again".

It seems Windows sets somewhere a flag for an unsuccessful and unfinished system file check and repair so the next time the computer reboots it falls again in the circle of "sfc" and "reboot to complete".


Is there any known solution to clear or cancel this? The only solution so far seems to be reinstallation ??


It is clear that if some system files are not intact the whole operating system is compromised.
But there are levels or layers in the OS and it could well be that the OS can still function in a restricted way so other ways of manual repairs could be carried out at least by more experienced users (after examining the sfc log and other logs).

Maybe this would work. Have no idea if it will as this was an old XP command.

Open elevated command prompt (run as administrator), type in
sfc /cancel (space between sfc and /cancel.)

Sorry not to mention that my question is about Windows 7 sfc.

Many options from the XP sfc command are not listed in Windows 7 sfc help and seem not implemented (as /revert and /cancel options).

I don't know if there are some forensic tools which could point to the place where Microsoft stores this "flag" for unsuccessful and unfinished previous sfc scan.

Run several times from the Command Line on System Recovery Options:

SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot

If this fails consider a Repair Install
