MS Office Issue - Cannot Open second file

    Hello All,

I have MS Office 2013. I have an intermittent problem with any of the MS Apps, ie Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook. Each application will open fine and I can open the first document without any issues. The problem occurs when I try to open a second document. The problem is intermittent but what happens is I try to open the second document and nothing appears to happen; however, when I look on hover over the Excel (or Word or Outlook) icon on the taskbar, I can see that the application tried to open the second file but the file will not maximize so I can edit the file. Secondly, the file window for the second file is empty. What I mean by empty is normally, when you hover over an App like Excel in the taskbar where you have opened a file, you see a preview of the file. When I look at the second file, I see a window for the second file but no preview. The window for the second file is blank.

Has anyone else had this issue? I will try to reinstall MS Office to see if that fixes the issue. The problem occurs on my work PC and I had it reimaged recently because I was getting odd crashes such as file explorer just crashing for no reason. Same for any of the MS Office apps. The issue I described in the paragraph above was occurring on my PC before so perhaps I just have a bad PC. I have run the self test for hard drive and memory and it passed. The PC is an HP. I am not an HP fan.

I would open a ticket with our "help desk" but they are not that helpful.

    Thanks, Bill

You mentioned this is your work PC. Is it in a work server environment, if so I think you should raise a ticket with the help desk, as it seems a problem they should get involved with.

Did the help desk do the re image for you, if so then they should definitely be involved.

Yes, it was re-imaged by the help desk. Problem is they are not so helpful. Not very resourceful either. My point in coming to this board was to see if there was some common issue that my help desk is too lazy to research. Sorry... not a very good review of our help desk but facts are facts.

Have you tried repairing Office?. To do that open Control Panel, select Programs & Features, scroll down to Microsoft Office 2013, Right Click on it & select Change & that should list a couple of Repair options to run.
