    installing sp1 in 7

    Hey guys

I have been having regular b.s.d's lately. I was about to install sp1 to stop all the b.s.d'ing but i saw a thread that said that they installed sp1 and the computer slowed down. Games were slower\copy speed's were slower. Is this true?

If it is true how much does it slow down. Does it slow down so much that your computer is barely usable or is it just slightly slower cant really tell.

This is important to me because i dont want to screw up my computer all my friends are in it lol

    Thanks for any replies :)

Didnt slow mine down at all and contrary to others I had zero problems installing it. there is a tool (google it) to check to see if you are ready to upgrade to sp-1

I second that. I haven't got SP1 installed yet but it made no difference on my sister's computer.

Haven't had any problems, either. FWIW, you might want to try the suggestions from this thread to speed up your machine. Worked for me.

SP1 slowed the system for about an hour as it bedded in but since then I think it is actually faster.

Thanks for all of your replies now i got another question. I went looking in Microsoft updates and sp1 wasn't in there.

I went and googled to find out why and it said i had to download all the other updates to get sp1.

I went and looked on Microsoft website "http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=C3202CE6-4056-4059-8A1B-3A9B77CDFDDA"

As you can see the download sizes are huge what do i do to get sp1 thanks

P.S. Does anyone know the name of the update these people are talking about?

    Hi,

Have you opened Windows Update on your computer and run it to check if there are any updates? You can also check which updates have been installed so far in your Update History.

In addition, make sure you have got the latest drivers (for example sound card driver). I remember that I was not offered SP1 (with Vista) until I had installed the latest driver for my sound card. Driver updates are usually offered as optional updates in Windows Update, or you can get them from your computer manufacturer's website (according to your computer model).

I installed SP1 and did not notice any slowing down. Most major updates, however, take a few boots to settle down nicely

    Read through the link below
re not having the option of downloading Windows 7 SP1 through Windows Update.

    Hope that enlightens you.

    Good luck.

You do not have the option of downloading Windows 7 SP1 when you use Windows Update to check for updates
