Installed SP1 from update and lost video resolution control

This evening I ran ms update on my system (Gigabyte H67 mobo, core i3-2100T processor, 8gb Gskill eco ram). Saw an important update notice for SP1. Downloaded and installed and immediately lost all video. restarted and all started normally with the exception that my video resolution is set at its lowest point. (I use a Sony Bravia TV for my monitor. If I make any change in screen resolution I lose all video.
I am just finishing a fresh install of win7, 64-bit on a new SSD. Unfortunately, I had read and followed some tweaks, among which was turning off my system restore. My device manager shows no problems, and tells me everything is working properly.
Anyone have any ideas of a fix for this? All assistance appreciated!

Thanks for the reply. I read the thread, and thought his solution might be good for me, as I found an updated VGA driver for my mobo on the Gigabyte website. Downloaded and installed, OK, all to no avail. I restarted my system and it rebooted into the same small screen size (just like before installing proper chip set drivers during OK install). Changing resolution to recommended resulted in loss of video entirely, again. I did notice that my system is seeing my monitor as a "generic pnp monitor". prior to the update, it did recognize the Bravia TV. Should I attempt to roll back that display driver? The date shown for it is from '06...

If the '06 driver worked, by all means give it a go. It will be a temporary fix until a proper answer is found.
I'll research a bit and return anon.

What's the exact model number of your Bravia?
The usual problem here is the refresh rate - TV's often tend to work on a 75fps, while PnP monitors work on 60fps.
When you change teh resolution, check that the fps is also set to one acceptable to the Bravia.

This turned out to be an Intel driver issue. After much reading around, last night, I found a new driver on the Intel site (8.1510.2559) dated Sept. 21, 2011 that cured the problem. The "reading around" showed that Intel had some problems with the display driver. These problems went on for months, I'm glad they fixed the prob. Here is a link to the driver download:

Thanks to SevenForums and all involved for a great site!

Which videocard do you have installed? We should make sure you get the correct and most up-to-date drivers for it.

I had the exact same thing happen to me when I updated my laptop with SP1. All went well, but after rebooting my nVidia video drivers were just gone - wiped out - and I was in standard VGA mode.

I simply downloaded and installed the latest nVidia drivers, and all was good.

EDIT: I see you just solved the problem (exactly as I thought). Glad to hear you're all set. :)

it is a good tool to have around. If you want to reduce the amount of space it uses see this - System Protection - Change Disk Space Usage

On how to create a restore point - System Restore Point - Create

    Good luck.
