Error 80070424 after virus changed Product key. How to repair?

After hours of research, it appears that virus contracted in April 2011 changed my product key, and also left me with the inability to reactivate my real/original product key (the service doesnt exist).
Below is my diagnostic report... I can tell you that the product key shown is not the key under my laptop.
I successfully activated my key when I purchased, so I know the one on my computer is correct. If anyone can tell me what steps I can take to repair and to reactivate my product key, I would be forever in your debt. I would think that windows has proof that I activated my original key???
I have been working at this for almost a year. (needless to say, I could use a Windows update) Thank you.

You've almost certainly been running a Registry Cleaner - probably WinFixer.
THAT is the cause of your problem.
use whatever UNDO function it has, then uninstall it completely.
Then post a new MGADiag report.

    Follow up to responses

FYI... I tried the registry cleaner after the virus hit. (my daughter downloaded a game from the internet without asking) I removed it, along time ago without reversing.
I have also reviewed the majority of the links provided, with no success. Everytime I I try something that may work, my computer will not cooperate.
    More help would be great!
    Thank you

    One more piece of info

As a result of this virus, and my inability to correct the product key, my OS shows as not authentic windows. This in itself is preventing me from getting updates, and other services, even after trying all options to repair each symptom. I think I just have to find a way to authenticate my real product key, without having to wipe my computer. (I cant even back up my emails). But Authentication Wizard service does not exist on my pc.

    * You say in Post 1...
I have been working at this for almost a year.
    * I would suggest the time has come to cut your losses & ease your frustration & do a Clean Install.
Your machine is currently crippled / compromised

    Clean Install Windows 7

    * I further suggest you choose your new Security software wisely.

    * In future you would be best to avoid any programs that offer to " clean / optimize" your machine.

Current accepted wisdom with Win 7 is to NOT use a cleaner.

If you ever think your Registry needs to be cleaned, repaired, boosted, tuned-up, cured, tweaked, fixed, or optimized it shouldn't.

In other words, injudicious use of "Registry cleaners" CAN & DOES cause problems.

Should you ever decide to go ahead again -
    Make sure you have
1.a current System Restore point created.
2.a recent "Back up" of your computer- preferably to an external

You have two options to clean install Windows.

    1. Download the same version, same bit (that was preinstalled on your laptop) official ISO from Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life and install.

You have to activate by phone using the COA key in the sticker on the laptop. Make sure that the key is readable without any ambiguity, note down and save it. You will require that key for all subsequent activations after a clean install. ( You may take an image of your system drive after the first activation and use it to restore whenever you want to clean install, instead of activating everytime.)

    2. You can use the OEM's Recovery Disk to restore your laptop to the factory condition. ( Did you make the Recovery Disks when you first received your laptop?) or the OEM's Reinstall Disk to do a clean install. Both ways you will not be required to activate since Windows will auto-activate using the OEM activation data on those disks.

You may contact your OEM and check out whether they can provide the Recovery Disk/Reinstall Disk. ( A reinstall disk would be preferable since the Recovery Disk will contain all the crap that comes with the laptop.)

Personally, I would prefer to keep the OEM activation in-tact.
