    Update keeps searching without result

I have reinstalled W7 from a rescue disc on a Toshiba Satellite. The CPU runs at 100% without any user programs which I believe is due to the Update Service. If this is stopped CPU usage drops to low levels. The reinstallation contained a number of updates. But any attempt to make a new Update fails. The process does not even find any updates. I have separately installed the latest Update agent, have run the Diagnosis (and repair) tool as well as the SURT update separately downloaded. No effect

Sorry but the combined update referenced by you from Microsoft Update catalogue did not work (the 64-bit version). Not applicable to this computer is a translation of the message given. Reimage is no good. Shows no real problems.

    Hi,
I wouldn't imagine so as soon as you connect to the internet windows installs another newer update client which is ultimately the problem.
You'd have to start all over disconnected from the internet and manually install the 2 suggested update clients from a flash drive.

Or as some brilliant other members have suggested just let it search all night :)

Where did you get your repair discs??, Toshiba Satellites have a recovery partition,(my other half's got one).
Its possible that the disc was either corrupt or broke the activation set-up.
post a copy of the data from this tool

Thanks for all the help. In fact a 12 hour search with PC turned on resulted in 176 important updates. Out of which 174 installed correctly. An error message was given , error code 643 unknown error i W Update. Should I take any action?

I will not set W Update to look for updates but initiate this manually at intervals. Are updates still issued for W7?
