    what's the best order?

hey, what is the best order, the first thing to do once i buy a new pc, 1.create a boot disc? 2. system restore 3. backup data (well i wouldn't have any data to backup when i first buy so count that one out), and last can i store backups and system restores on the same external hard drive? thanks

If the computer comes with Windows pre-installed, then you should:

    1. Create recovery disks
    2. Enable virus/firewall protection (don't attempt to combine anti-virus products)
    3. Create a system image and rescue (boot disk) for the image
    4. Create data backups as you proceed

    In that order.

System restore points? will probably be setup by default, so no need to tamper with that, although you should check it.

System restore points? are not stored externally - perhaps you are referring to system images? If so, then yes, images and backups can be stored to a single external device provided it is large enough.

if you password protect your pc then you may want to create a password recovery disk also
