Suppose it wouldn't hurt to have a bootable rescue disk.

Without the rescue cd an image is only half good :)
Most the time boot issue occur and the rescue disk will be needed to fix that issue with startup repair plus restore a system image in a reliable environment at boot.

The problem as stated in the title, it's not reading the image file in disc 1, disc 2 is ok.
