Mail works no browser

    Mail works no browser


    I have a system that can access outlook mail but both browsers cannot display web pages DNS error in IE 6 and Firefox just cannot display web page tried just about everything i can think off with this glitch any ideas do not have specs on system at this time.

    If it is XP it really should be running at least IE 7.
    Also check to see if FF is up to date.

    Old versions of the browsers might be a problem.???

    Sorry it is windows 7 Pro 32 bit with IE8 and the latest download of FF

    Tried rebooting everything...Computer, router, modem, any switch?
    Pull up a command prompt and ping "google.com" w/o quotes and separately its IP "209.85.175.147". If the IP works your internet connectivity is good. If the name works as well, then your DSN look up is good. Usually, email requires both to work, so all I can think of is try this set of tools to fix the browsers: SF IE Restorator - Troubleshooting General Issues with IE

    Checked just about everything possible will try the links you suggested we have pinged the ip and it looks like all is correct but no browsing, might try repair install even tried system restore to no avail.

    We must of but owner is using my external drive to back up his data and then doing a clean install of 7 because there were other issues like wife and son downloading stuff that he wasn't aware of until this happened. Thanks for the help will let you know how the reinstall works out.

    Problem fixed with the new install would of liked to work on it more to try and fix it another way.

    Make sure you know what the kids are dl'ling and where they are getting it, safe surfing and dl'ling will keep the computer clean.
