umm...turning it off to see if it's interfering in any way. Is it just Windows firewall or a third party one?

That's not what your signature says.
Have you turned it off completely, including any browser add-ons/toolbars it adds to IE?

If you don't even care to try, then how will you rule it out?

IE 64bit has no add ons. With IE32bit in safe mode all is well too. I use Norton firewall and of or on has no effect.

The items in my sig are links to those downloads to assist people, I don't have all that installed.

I have disabled ALL addons, issues remained.
I re-enabled one at a time, restarting IE each time, issue remained.
After a few minutes with no changes made, issue was gone.
A few more minutes, nothing changed again, issue returned.

Guess I'll figure it out eventually

Perhaps see/confirm if it is a program interfering?

Thanks for checking in Bill. The clean start up had no effect, the pics still appear at the top of the page and the X doesn't clear them, only a page refresh. I also had disabled all add ons to IE too, no help.

Perhaps try reregistering the dll's with Shyams IE Restorator. It's a shot, and would cause no harm.

The Shyams IE Restorator had no effect. I only used the Reregister function since I have no idea what the other ones mean.

When you click a thumb in a post does it open right over the post and darken the background? That is how they used to work for me.
Here is how it works in IE 8 64 bit and how it used to work in IE 32 bit.

This is how it looks in IE 32 bit clicking the above snip. It can't be dismissed unless the page is refreshed.

That is odd, I only get something like that when sending a PM to someone,

but I can close it using the x.

Must be frustrating, I had an issue with videos for a while but a clean install fixed that.

Thanks Derek, it seems my clean reinstall caused this.
