hi there,

I am thinking to upgrade to IE10 since i just understood that some BASIC functionalities of gmail are gone (cannot attach multiple files, cannot see progress during attachment) after they introduced this lovely "new compose", so either i switch email or i need to upgrade from IE9.

Personally i like IE9, is fast and works OK, occasionally i get the "this tab has stopped working" with the RED x but is no big deal, happens rarely.

After all, IE10 has been around for a while now and i bet that there's been several patches for it so i'd like how it's working right now, and if there are any major issues with it.

Many Thanks
Gabrio

I have ie10 on two machine with very few issues,
I also have Google toolbar installed and use gmail so I can say I'm not having any issues with either,
There is a few tweaks which I've learned to use for a better experience which also apply to ie9 as well,
Adobe shockwave player is probably the biggest role player in how well ie9 or 10 operates/ I usually run with it Disabled and only enable if a I want to watch a video,
I've found little to no need for Java from Oracle so Uninstalling it might help a bit and making sure the Java deployment kit is disabled/ haven't found a way to completely remove Java deployment as of yet ?
http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/uninstall_java.xml
I've also found Alt+TB or Menubar/ Tools/ Compatibility view settings/ Uncheck Download comp-view lists from Microsoft automatically and good thing to do/ except for Intranet leave Checked and of course Uncheck view all sites in comp-view. will help either version of ie.

But as always there can be third party Security suites which will not understand and therefor block Internet explorer's processes so Please state what you use Microsoft security essentials is popular on this and many other help forums,
For added security you can add another popular one Malwarebytes Pro/ very cheap and works well with MSE,
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
But be sure to remove any existing security suite before adding another one to replace it,
Fill out your system spec's page and post your existing security suite.
Avast and AVG have issues with ie10 along with Mcafee and Norton.
Edit,
There is some more tweaks but please add more information.

More tweaking I've found which helps ie9 or 10,
Browser history Delete on exit,
I personally don't use allot of features like Form fills/ auto password and Username collections/ or even the New tabs page-Frequently visited sites list,
So if you also don't care for those feature,
Open ie,
Use Alt+TD or Ctrl+Shift+Delete
View attachment 282078
Uncheck the very top box and leave the very bottom box Unchecked then check all others except for the third from the top Cookies box,
The cookies box will allow you to say logged into various sites where you check the box to remember you/ stay logged in/ it's about all I use.
Delete browser history Settings button,
View attachment 282076
I have it set to "0" days although the temp folder is set on it's recommended size of 250mg. (I do not stockpile temp-files)
Cache and Databases section/ Uncheck the box to allow this storage. (ie10 only)
When Resetting ie9 or 10 and Deleting personal settings which is a good idea to do when you upgrade to a newer version so all the default settings have no issues installing.
One note after a reset and opening ie for the first time,

Good do come back with an update,
A short tip is to check every once in awhile for the Broken page Icon, (Comp-view)
active%20x-comp-view.jpg

It doesn't always appear and if you ever see the Blue circle with the slash through it right click it to disable active x filtering,
When the Broken page Icon does not appear use the F12 key (developer tools) click on Browser mode and make sure your using ie10 and not Comp-view which usually is only needed if video controls are inactive and a few other page rendering issues click on another listing to force a switch/ the page will auto refresh,
Document mode can also be manually switched the same way. Standards usually works best but there are rare occasions where ie7 will end up being checked as default.
Cheers.

I personally disliked it because it didn't play nice with my routers internet GUI like IE9 does. Also very sluggish accessing the GUI for my NAS MyBook Live. Fiddling with compatibility modes and document modes made no difference so I rolled back. I think someone said it responds better with my routers GUI using InPrivate Browsing mode but I didn't want to go back and try. Basically my issue was sometimes I'd click my router link and it'd respond loading the page instantly, then later on it'd be waiting for reply for anything upto 15 seconds. There was no ryhme or reason. Maybe IE10 is pinickity when accessing internal device web pages (my model Netgear WNDR 3700 v2). External browsing seemed fine though.

I also noticed a nasty bug where trying to attach pictures from within internet explorer browse mode (ie. facebook) that browsing to the pictures folder saw that loads of folders were missing. I've seen others raise this issue. I think recreating the folder solves the issue but what an oversight by Microsoft. Personally IE9 is fine and far less buggy for me. I dislike Microsoft's policy of change for the sake of change when IE9 was ticking along just fine.

I've just tested this and it appears to be working fine. localhost and facebook upload, no problem here. in regards to localhost, it might be your router, I noticed that mine sometimes refreshes in one fraction of second, sometimes takes a little but is no biggie to me. Happened the same with IE9.

Yes that was and I suppose still is an issue with more than just Facebook users/ gmail/ outlook.com/....
But there were several fixes/ workarounds..
1) Was to make sure Show hidden folders, files and drives was selected in Folder options, (Easiest).
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/394-hidden-files-folders-show-hide.html
2) Renaming the folders that were not appearing in the upload browse box, (add a number or letter to the beginning)
3) Delete the Problematic Library and Right click the Libraries listing and using Restore default libraries.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/173029-libraries-hidden-empty-fix.html
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/581-libraries-restore-default.html
4) Using a Unhide utility from bleepingComputer to do it for you.
All the above would point to some sort of maleware or User account corruption which ie10 picked up ?
No-one really gave allot of information about their systems or security suites they had installed....,
They just blamed ie10 and ranted/ Uninstall.....

Well I did only download ie 10 shortly after release so it may be better now. But I saw the pictures library issue on my machine, my wife's and in the work machine. My firm has rolled back to ie 9 too and I work in a reasonably large corporate. I don't know the issues they had but I guess some pretty major concerns.

As for the router UI yes I think ie 10 does not like its older interface for some reason. I do have other access points with different UI and they do work better. It just frustrates that IE9 copes fine with it as does Mozilla and chrome yet IE10 plays oddball.

Maybe ie10 is better now. Has it been patched other than the bog standard patch tuesday security fixes?

Not sure what you mean about patches but you should fill in basic information about your machine.
As stated earlier some utilities are less willing to work well with ie10.

It's an Alienware laptop running win 7 ultimate 64 bit. Hybrid gpu radeon 6970m. I just wondered if ie10 had changed in anyway other than the security updates ms rains down on us every 2nd Tuesday. It might be that it works better now but I think having had my fingers burned I will stick with IE9 until I absolutely have to. Cheers for the suggestions though mate. I think I have unfortunately become bitter towards the likes of ms and apple. I don't like changing for the sake of it. And every change is not generally for the better. Too radical and too many bugs for users to endure. I really dislike windows 8, why get rid of the desktop start menu ??? But that's another story ...

At one point nobody liked ie9 because of mostly conflicts/ changes in the downloads manager,
I have seen no noticeable visual changes in ie10 from 9 except a few different wording of internet options and a couple of extra screens in the delete browser history Settings pages.
As most things go Google only supports the latest 2 versions of a browser when ie11 full is released only that and 10 will be supported/ Not that you said anything about Google=Just saying.

Ok I tried it again. I stand slightly corrected. External browsing seems fast and responsive. Ever so slightly quicker I guess. And the pictures bug was gone so that's good. It still doesn't like my router UI but if I choose in private browsing it then works fine so that's kind of an acceptable workaround.

One thing I knew would glitch is sky go website. It doesn't display TV guides properly in ie10 but is fine in ie9. Guess sky need to pull their finger out.

So overall I say it's ok. I still prefer ie 9 but guess got to roll with the times and I don't like not being up to date!

Thanks for offer mate. I would do but sky is the main UK satellite TV provider so it needs subscription to use. It's a known issue with IE10, I checked their forums. I didn't realise f12 to change the mode would help but it seems to make it work better. Only trouble is have to do it each time in the site. Sky need to sort this out but I guess they have only had 10 months or so since IE10 came out to fix it!!!!!!

Anyway thanks. Your posts kind of inspired me to give IE10 another crack and I am happy I did now. It gave me a cold sweat but it isn't as bad as I remembered and I am upto date again. Hopefully onwards and upwards!

Cheers
Wayne

No problem if you can confirm Browser mode and Document mode the site uses ?
Also refer back to unchecking download comp-view list automatically and delete browser history to remove the prior downloaded lists might help,
To properly clear the cache, Alt+TD
Check all of the boxes and uncheck the top box/ Delete.
Then you can alter the settings boxes for the features you want to use in ie10 or as I use in the examples.
Cheers.

I have to say that works pretty smoothly, I guess that they have ironed out a few bugs. Been using from few days and didn't see any issue really, never had the annoying "this tab needs to be closed" that happened every now and then with IE9.

I know you started this thread back in August but I'm really surprised that you were able to maintain IE9 up to then without much trouble.

I say this because my Windows update installed IE10 automatically back in April or thereabouts.... I actually held off as long as I could by hiding it in the update downloads but eventually it installed itself without my knowledge or permission. The reason I held off was only because one of my favorite sites was having issues with IE10 so they posted a banner on several pages asking members to hold off.

Its funny because other sites had pop-ups every single time I visited telling me I needed to upgrade to IE10. I'm just amazed that you didn't experience that especially keeping 9 until August.
