Solved Unable to uninstall IE11, install did not complete

Hi,

My friend has installed IE11 on Win 7 64. I'm not sure what she actually did but while IE11 works fine, there are no options for uninstalling it.

We have looked in Programs and features as well as Programs and features -> View Installed Updates and it appears in neither.

Running the IE11 installer again results in a message saying that it did not finish installing.

I'm stumped, can anyone suggest how to remove IE11?

Hi probedb,

Run this command as admin from command prompt (cmd.exe). Make sure you have admin rights.

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*11.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /quiet /norestart"

This will force to uninstall IE 11 and roll back to IE 10.

Odd it does not show up in installed updates as mine was right there when I went to uninstall it. Had no problems.

There`s no need for a brand new browser. A lot of companies software will not work with it, banks for example.

I waited over 2 years to go from 8 to 10 :sleepy:

Why are people assuming because I have a few posts that I know nothing about Windows?

IE11 still needs to be installed on a Win 7 machine whether or not it's in a VM and can still become broken.

The problem was sorted outside this forum but thanks to those that posted links.

My apologies if it sounded that way... 'twas not my intent.

I agree that IE11 still needs fixing on the host computer.

I merely suggested a series of frozen VM snapshots for web site testing.

No worries. We already do that and also externally use Browserstack, however we needed to install IE11 locally :)

I believe it may be what archer posted, I wasn't watching at the time but was definitely command-line based and dropped the browser back to the previous install which was the default IE*.

My issue was slightly different. I had recently upgraded a windows 7 pro 32bit IE 8 machine to service pack 1.
After the upgrade, and many updates, IE 8 was still installed and IE 10 and IE 11 were getting install failures.
I tried many things that were recommended on the internet, but your "forfiles" command was the only one that worked.
