Spell Checker not working in Internet Explorer 11

    Hi guys.

I'v searched the forum and Googled this problem but nothing useful shows. I made a comment about this in the old Internet Explorer 10 (IE10) Spelling Correction - Enable or Disable but because its not IE10 I'm told to make a new thread in here.

The spell checker on IE11 has always worked since I installed Windows 7 12 months ago. Over the past couple of weeks I've noticed its stopped working. Its always been enabled in Manage Add-ons. I've Googled and the closest think I've found is update the spell check dictionaries Download Spelling dictionaries for Internet Explorer 11 Release Preview from Official Microsoft Download Center

When I ran IE-Spelling-en.msu it checked and said KB2849696 is already installed.

I have FireFox as a backup and the spell check still works on there.

I've looked and search Programs and Features Installed Updates for KB2849696 and nothing shows. I search for KB297337 which is shown but it still said nothing found so that search is crap.

All updates have been installed as and when asked.

Anyone have any idea how I can get it working again?

    me too

Hi there, no solution but a quick reply to say "me too" Another reason I was forced to downgrade from IE 11 back to 10 (see related posting that has no title yet until I write it in here)

Hi which version of ie did you upgrade from ?
It's always best to download ie as released that way if you need to roll back you don't go back to far beside you can always roll back again to another prior version if need be.

10 is the most stable imho which you should try and see if the issue remains,
Avast could of released an update that is blocking spell checker.
    See what this does,
    Use No Add-ons mode/

Open ie and go to Gear symbol/ Manage add-ons
On the top left column go to Toolbars and extensions
Bottom left column click on Show and switch to All add-ons,
Post screen shots of the add-ons page
See the links above my signature on how to take and upload screen shots here if you need assistance with that request
    Cheers.

The only addons I have is Adobe PDF to save web pages as a PDF. Avast Online Security, Microsoft Research which is disabled, Not Available is disabled, Java plugin. These have always been enabled since I've used Windows 7.

I did a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware quick scan the other day as it takes hours and hours to do a full scan. It picked up:

It says No action taken as I saved the log file before I removed them all. I removed all and did a restart but the spell checker still doesn't work.

The links on here to download IE10 all goto IE11. I searched for Internet Explorer 10 on Download Old Versions of Internet Explorer for Windows - ** REMOVED ** and I downloaded that one.

Because IE11 is the only version thats been installed. Internet Explorer 11 is shown in installed updates but I wouldn't have thought you could uninstall it before installing IE10 as there is nothing to roll back too. I don't really want IE10 as I've always been happy with IE11.

Well pups come mostly from torrent websites which is no surprise you posted another torrent to download ie10

The question is why a torrent ie10 is offered by the windows update system :/

I'll just add on your image on the bottom left column your set on Currently loaded add-ons,
Please switch to Show All add-ons.

Click on Spelling Correction in the left pane instead of Tool Bars and Extensions. Let's see if it's turned on and what language is selected.

If you found that many PUPs, I would advise you bite the bullet and run a full scan no matter how long it takes.

Ok I decided to uninstall IE11 from Control Panel which put back IE8 which is strange as IE11 as been installed from the start. Anyway I downloaded Internet Explorer 11 (Offline installer) and tried to install it but it wouldn't go in, it left a link on the desktop. Troubleshooting a failed installation of Internet Explorer 11 which my system meets the requirements.

I downloaded Internet Explorer 10 Windows 7 and that installed without a problem. IE11 said I needed to close a few apps like Sidebar, Avast anti-virus which I selected to disable but it still wouldn't install.

At the moment IE10 is working ok and the spell checker is working to I'm reasonably happy.

No reason to get ie of any version from anywhere but the windows update system after Hiding the ie11 update.
The previous versions will appear in it's place instead of ie11.
    Cheers.

I always download from Microsoft if its available. I searched Microsoft for internet explorer 10 the links show:

Official Download – Free download of the latest Internet Explorer for your system. Internet Explorer 9, Internet Explorer 10 and Internet Explorer 11 web...
, only IE11 was available. I've just installed IE11-Windows6.1-x86-en-us.exe from M$ and the spell checker is still working so I'm happy.

    Download Internet Explorer - Browser

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/sear...nload&form=DLC

There is nothing on the Internet Explorer 10 link only License Terms.
