There is really no need to worry as you can completely disable Buzz by clicking on Settings>Buzz>Disable Buzz.

This kind of gave me an excuse to get off of Gmail. Apart from the massive amount of spam I get in my Gmail account, I've also been hearing bad things about the privacy of Gmail (I just hope Google Chrome doesn't have the same issues. Does anyone know if it does?). Therefore, I decided to place some trust in Microsoft and created a Hotmail account.
I am using only GMail and no other services from apart from picasa. occasionally use chrome. Have accn. in wave, barely use it. Enabled buzz and after seeing this thread and elsewhere in google itself, disabled it. Rarely use orkut too.
I presume Hotmail is more secure. Hardly I get one or 2 spam mail for a week and it is also not original spam :)
I have accounts with Googlemail, GMX and Livemail (hotmail), and have accessed all, over the last couple of years, through both outlook, (2007 & 2010), & thunderbird without any major issues.
I have also used IMAP with Googlemail and GMX without issues although GMX's implementation of IMAP is far better than Google's hash-up with tags.
As for spam (not including items which I have agreed to, whilst signing up for software etc), I have yet to see any spam from my GMX account. I am starting to see more and more spam in my google account, (the majority of which is caught by google's filters, I must add), and quite a few unsolicited Private Messages on Livemail.
I am slowly migrating my "stuff" from googlemail to GMX, The situation with livemail is more complicated as I "have" to use the Livemail account for my direct communications with Microsoft.
I will add that once a message is marked as spam in either Google or Livemail, that is the last I see of the sender.
Sorry for the long post but feel a little background was in order before I can recommend GMX to anyone
Barman58: "Sorry for the long post"
LONG ???
THANKS for the information.
about GMX: have you got any "offers" / advertising emails (from GMX) ?
Dinesh: "There is really no need to worry as you can completely disable Buzz..."
not about Buzz, that´s correct.
i disabled Buzz yesterday on almost all my accounts, so Buzz is not any problem anymore.
but the BIG question is: can Google be trusted ?
after doing such an insane thing with Buzz, what will they do next time ?
thats´why i started looking for an alternative.
unfortunately, livemail is not an option as they don´t support imap.
btw. during a search on the net i´ve seen some post saying that imap can be used with yahoo-accounts.
i´ve tried several different setting, but got errrormessages everytime, does anyone know if it´s posssible ?
Dont use IMAP with yahoo accounts. If you want to use it, there is a charge for it. You can also search "google" for other free ways. But if Yahoo finds that you are cheating them, your ID will be burst.
Edit; So I guess Gmx is a better option for you.
Dinesh: "Dont use IMAP with yahoo accounts. If you want to use it, there is a charge for it"
so this means imap CAN be used ?
what are the settings then ?
what charge ?
do you mean the same charge as for pop3 (yahoo-plus) ?
i have FREE pop3 on all my yahoo-accounts, it´s free on swedish accounts....
