okay so i have been gone for a bit and i have been working with the people over at toshiba trying to resolve my issue, let me just start off by saying toshiba's customer support is horrible and every person i talked to first started me off with "your model is not under warranty" and when i said i just wanted to ask a few questions to see if i could get my system running they reluctantly helped after first trying to convince me that it was a windows error and not toshiba i finally got someone willing to help after a couple calls and some serious hold time, so as for the issue that arose from our troubleshooting this is what i got for an answer. Apparently since my display driver was last updated in 09 thats because that is the last time toshiba updated it not when i DL'ed it, and he also said that 1.9 is the most recent bios for my pc even though they have a 2.2 that came up when i typed in my machine he said that it wasn't for my pc and that it was a mistake that it came up. After i told him about our trouble shooting and that the problem was not a windows related issue he finally referred me to a toshiba repair center about 40 mins from my house and told me that it was most likely a hardware related issue (which i already assumed from the beginning) so like i said it is a decent drive (in a car) to get there and they want an arm and a leg to troubleshoot, so the reason i came back here is to ask a question or two since you seem to be the most knowledgeable and caring of the any of the people i have encountered

so 1 is there a way i can trouble shoot hardware without having extra hardware lying around (beside RAM which we tested with memtest and which is the only extra hardware i have lying around) i was already thinking of updating the gpu b4 any of these problems arose. or am i just stuck paying almost half of what i paid for the computer to have it troubleshot

and 2 do u have any suggestions on hardware i might want to invest in as you seem to know your stuff

    Hello, and welcome back.

    1a - MEMORY)
Be sure to check your warranty rules and regulations before opening your case.
    * Memtest86+ is USB-ready, and can be booted directly from it. Download the flashdrive wizard.
    * To ensure that either your sticks OR your motherboard slots are broken, it's necessary to do the below procedure-
    * Pull out all sticks except ONE, scan it.
    * If no errors, pull the scanned stick into another slot.
    * Proceed like this until you've scanned all sticks individually, and all the slots.[/B]
    1b - GRAPHICS CARD) Furmark & How

    1c - CPU) Prime95

    2) Let's see how those tests turns out before investing in new hardware. Just be sure to watch your temperatures during the stress tests. :)

    Best Regards,
    Frederik.

    MEMORY
okay so you probably don't remember this as it was about a month ago and u answer many posts but I successfully ran memtest for about 30 something passes and came up with 0 errors however i only ran it with both sticks intact and didn't test them individually if that matters? actually have a few old laptops around and ram is actually the hardware i have extras of and are the easiest for me to get a hold of

(i actually have a computer with a broken screen that i have a screen for that i accidentally dropped a screw into mid installation but that's for another time and another thread)

    GPU
i ran furmark and it caused a bsod after a short period and i could hardly get any fps at all is this a sign that my gpu is faulty?

    CPU
i am in the process of DL'n prime atm and it says to run for two hours figured id give you this update to see if im wasting time by running it i can receive alerts on my android if you respond in case i cant use the pc at the same time that prime is running

    P.S
i searched out 0x0000001E on TechNet Library Home and found a thread in which someone was experiencing bsod from a faulty keyboard (although he was using a desktop and i have a laptop) but from time to time my numpad sometimes works and sometimes doesn't figured id throw out that info in case it helps you diagnose my problem

okay so as i was running prime my cpu was 100% and i was seeing some high temps up to about core0-80 and core1-78 before i halted the process got a question as to how hot is way too hot to allow it to reach as it was advised to halt the process if it gets "too hot"

    Excellent, well done.

Prime95 went well, did you notice the temperatures during Furmark? I find it interesting that you couldn't get any fps at all. Are you a particular gamer?

yes i am a gamer and suddenly my system has been acting up and progressing i cant even watch youtube videos anymore without a bsod i am thinking it might just be cheaper at this point to just pick up a new system i have no idea what has gone wrong my system went from working immaculately to not working at all in the blink of an eye among no changes to drivers or anything and is still crashing even though it has been returned to out of box factory settings and no i only let prime run for like 20 mins before my system seemed to be getting incredibly hot and i was unable to monitor temps during furmark as it took up the whole screen and minimizing it cause it to turn black and only way to get it running again was to bring it into the foreground and minimize speed fan

Your laptop is out of warranty yes? Have you contacted Toshiba regarding this? Explain the whole situation or link to this thread. It sounds like some hardware is not working as it should. They definitely have more knowledge on this as it's their own piece of work.
If you don't feel comfortable doing so just let me know, I just thought as you live in the US it'd be no problem with fees and so on and so forth.

Feel free to share your conversation with Toshiba when you got it sorted.

toshiba could care less about me!! the couple of weeks i was away from this thread i was in contact with them and almost everyone there started the convo with the fact that my system was out of warranty and that there was very little they could do for me, they wanted nothing to do with reading this thread or going over any of the troubleshooting steps i had taken (I tried to get them to read this tread to better understand my problem) almost everyone there brushed me off to someone else who had the same advice, finally i got someone who told me that my bios and display drivers were both up to date and that my problem was most likely a hardware issue and that there was nothing he could do for me aside from helping me find a toshiba certified repair center that has overpriced services for things i could have done at any local pc repair shop, was hoping i could just troubleshoot what hardware was faulty and replace it myself guessing its going to be more complicated than that

That's one odd way of supporting. All I can say is, the Furmark test made it pretty obvious for me. If it couldn't get to show any frames, I think it's a culprit, for now so to say. You've made Clean Installs several of times yes?
