mike
from the looks of how things are going .. there are two options.
Option 1
- Boot in ubuntu and get into windows and backup all your stuff to an external HDD..
- Forget the settings .. they can be redone again even though its more work..
- for bookmarks ..
- Chrome... go to C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default
- Firefox ... go to C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ .. check inside the folder which has default mentioned in its name.
- Opera ... go to the Opera installation directory.
Option 2
- If you cant get to backup from Ubuntu ... then get an external HDD case where you can pop the laptop drive to it and use it as an external hdd..
- Plug it to a desktop computer and windows follow the same steps of 2 and 3 of option 1
Once you have done this.. Do a clean reinstallation of windows
Dont reimage the old drive..
You will still have the same problem as you are facing now... sometimes its best to do a clean install and take backups.. it will save your hairs !!
