How might I go about making certain that I'm not overclocking? Determining whether or not I'm overclocking has always been a subject lacking clarity for me.

Hello Wyatt mate re RAR is a zip format that requires software not contained I Windows to open the dump files so can you just go back and follow those links I posted please.
The Bugcheck 4 is as I said can be an overheating problem and in any case with that CPU/machine you would have to have supernatural powers or be some technical wizard to overclock it. Looking at the specs for that CPU it runs at 2.0GHz and doesn't appear to have any turbo speed (a feature that Intel build in to raise the speed when required to put it simply) it is also a quite an old CPU being released in the third quarter of 2010.
(Just so you know any Bugcheck between 1 and 120 is usually a hardware issue)
Now it would be good to have the temps mate and if the CPU is running at anything approaching 50C during normal use then it is getting reasonably warm above that and it is getting too hot. Now this can be caused by two main things a) the thermal compound on the CPU is old and dry and not conducting heat properly or b) the cooling system is clogged with dust. The former requires re applying that thermal compound not a job to be taken lightly because you need to pull the machine down to do that. The latter is the easiest thing to check - see this
CLEANING A LAPTOP FAN & COOLER RAD
The thing you do is to turn over the laptop and shine a very bright light into the air intake aperture (you will see the fan there) and then while doing that look at the outlet vent on the end of the laptop you should see the light quite clearly shining through the cooling " radiator" if not it is clogged and will need cleaning as will probably the fan opening.
You can do this by blowing it out using a compressed air can in short bursts.
BUT ONE WORD OF WARNING*DO NOT blow the air into the fan opening without inserting say a plastic rod or large cable tie to stop the fan from spinning as the air blast will spin the fan at a very high speed that it is not designed to take and may wreck the bearing!!* There is also the fact that doing this can produce a voltage that can be up to almost 12v which while the fan is connected to the board will introduce that voltage into the machine and again can cause severe damage if not wreck the board and/or components.
To clean the "rad" I use those pipe cleaners to GENTLY loosen the crud and then blow it out*of course*disassembly makes life so much easier.

So in summary
1. Run that Speccy
2. Check the cooling system as per my ditty
3. Do what is required I those two tutorial links.
We can go from there because without knowing what you find in 1 &2 plus send he dump files it is a bit like walking in a fog hoping you stay on the right path.
Oh and mate do it fairly soon because if it is heat that is the issue you may be running on borrowed time.

I recently had to renistall windows to factory settings. I will submit the minidump files when it happens. I will be sure to use the DM Log Collector unless it produces the zip files that you can't open.
Ok well will have to wait for any BSOD' though hopefully you will not get any BUT
that is getting a tad too hot for my liking if this is just running emails and general stuff like that and I strongly urge you to check out that venting system as per my ditty. I say this because the Tjunction of that CPU is 90C and to put that simply means that the processor will shut down as it approaches or reaches that temp.CPU

Worst case scenario is that it will fail altogether as you have to remember the chip itself is only made from silicon which although has a melting temp of around 1400C does have other elements within in it that will not stand up to that temp or anything close to it think of it as being a piece of glass if you will.
Now in the pics you will get some idea of what is inside the machine and the CPU that pic shows the chip with the lid removed to give you an idea of sizes.
About the requested dump files...
I have been through 3 or 4 dumps and have followed the suggested instructions precisely and every time have received that same outcome of the files that you can't open.
Are there any alternatives to produce the files or folders which your software will allow you to open?
