    Seemingly random BSOD during normal use.


    I introduced a Japanese friend of mine to this site having heard he was getting random BSOD while browsing.
    He doesn't speak much English so he'd probably have a hard time communicating on this forum.

    I don't have many details regarding his specs off hand, but he did run the DM log collector for me.

    In short he's using a custom rig a computer repair/retailer put together for him about 5 years ago.
    Checking his dxdiag, he's got:
    Windows 7 Home 64x (Japanese version), i7 2700K, 8gb ram, geforce 570, 120gb SSD and 2tb HDD.

    I glanced over most of the files in the collector, but I really don't know what to look for.

    I will get any information from him if needed. He's a texture artist/modeler at the company I work for, so he knows how to use software, but he doesn't muck much with hardware from what I can tell.

    Edit:My friend told me that he uses firefox.
    He said a BSOD occurs usually once a week just while browsing the internet with it.

    When I checked on the thread today (an hour ago), I noticed a little link to this site that appeared to be embedded in my post. Apparently it's some kind of repair tool for windows 7.

    I also vaguely recall seeing another link to it at the bottom of the BSOD posting instructions yesterday.
    Trying to locate either of those links now, they're both gone. Looking at some reviews it looks like malware.

    Up until a few hours ago I was under the impression that tool is sanctioned by the admins. Should I avoid it?

    Those are guest adverts, only seen when not logged in. They are not sanctioned by anyone here.

    Why did you create a second account? You can't have multiple accounts here.

    Awesome thanks, I'll tell my friend to not use it. I didn't realize they were only shown when not logged in.

    Sorry about this. I wasn't trying to trick anyone by doing it.

    I created my first accounts (one for tenforums, the other for this) at home. The password for those accounts isn't memorable, and neither is the password for the email I used to create them, so I had no other option than to create another account in order to post while at work.

    Might you have a recommendation for consolidating these accounts. I'll look around for a way to delete the one of the accounts (probably in account settings I presume).

    Sorry for the bump. My friend's still getting BSODs.

    He tried running sfc /scannnow in safemode and it can't repair corrupt files.

    I attached his cbs.log

    Anyone have ideas how he should go about fixing system files?
    I glossed the cbs and found it's got a lot of AMD package errors.

    Should he use these steps? That tutorial was published back in 2009, so I'm not sure if it would apply in 2016.

    Hi Hans W,

    Some of the unrepaired corruption are a false positive, these are json files that are used for analytics (telemetry) for GWX, it was some time ago solved so you probably do not have the update installed or not the right update (there are multiple versions of the update).
    Then there is a 3rd one which I am not familair with

    My friend tried this tutorial and ran into a problem. When he clicked on "Repair your Computer", an error message displayed something to the effect that the version of windows installed is incompatible with that of the version of the disk.

    The disk he used was a recovery disk supplied with the PC he bought. I know I've used an OEM Windows "repair" disk to completely install Windows 7 from scratch on a formatted disk so I doubt that's the reason why it's incompatible. My friend swears that the version of the Windows (repair) disk is the same version as that of the Windows version installed.

    There isn't by any chance a downloadable installer for Windows 7 like there is for Windows 10 is there?

    He has a genuine Windows version, but maybe his install is so messed up he can't repair by normal methods.
