Bluescreen problems with brand new Notebook

    Hello folks,
I registered here and this forum looks really nice and profesional and I hope that you guys can help me. So this is my problem: I have a Dell
Studio 1747, with intel i7 720-QM processor, 4GB RAM and ATI Mobility Radeon 4650. My OS is Windows 7 as 64bit version. I bought it 3 weeks ago and I'm geting a bluescreen very
often, 1-4 times per day, in all kinds of situations, it doesnt matter if I'm just listening music and actually doing nothing or if I'm surfing
or if I'm playing games which makes the hardware reach its lI'mits, its always the same bluescreen with this description:
    BCCode: 7f
    BCP1: 0000000000000008
    BCP2: 0000000080050031
    BCP3: 00000000000006F8
    BCP4: FFFFF80002A44E58
    OS Version: 6_1_7600
    Service Pack: 0_0
    Product: 768_1

    Files which can be helpful:
    C:\Windows\Minidump\070210-19983-01.dmp
    C:\Users\Frozenthunder\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-225218-0.sysdata.xml
This problem occured just 1 day after i bought this notebook.
I did much research and I also updated my BIOS and Graphic driver, but the problem still occurs. I was reading, that people which used some other
Windows version (Vista/XP) before never had the problem, but as soon as they installed Windows 7 as 64bit version they got this bluescreen. So
maybe it's a problem with Windows 7? Or is it the Hardware? I attached the latest dump file.

    Welcome to SF!

The dump does not point to anything specifically. However, I see a few potential causes of BSODs.

First, your AMD Power Monitor drivers are outdated. They should be updated or removed.
    Code:
    AmdTools64.sys Mon Apr 28 13:03:39 2008 (4816036B)
One thing you should understand is that 3rd party anti-virus programs are well-known for causing BSODs in Windows 7 and Vista. ZoneAlarm is very bad that way, but I have also seen some crashes caused by Avira.

As a troubleshooting step, I would recommend removing both programs. Replace them with Microsoft Security Essentials.

    Avira removal tool: http://www.avira.com/en/documents/ut...ninstXPeng.zip

    ZoneAlarm removal tool: http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe

If those steps don't work, please enable driver verifier: Using Driver Verifier to identify issues with Drivers

    UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
    If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
            use .trap on that value
    Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
    Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: 0000000000000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT
    Arg2: 0000000080050031

Alright, I uninstalled both programs now and installed MSE. I keeped the PC running over night and some programs were running and there was no bluescreen. I also flashed the newest BIOS which came out yesterday. I didn't got any bluescreen yet.

Here is some more details about the possible cause of the original problem: Bug Check 0x7F: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP - 08 in BCP01 seems to be especially nasty. But since you seem to have the problem fixed, it may have only academic value.

This is the first community which solved my proplem and it was that fast, in less than a day, awesome work. I created threads in some forums which were specially for windows but they were not able to solve the problem. Just wanted to say thanks for this awesome help . By the way I have a question: Is MSE also a Firewall? Because i thought about buying Kaspersky Software. Or is MSE safe enough?

MSE is not a firewall, but you should use the Windows Firewall in conjunction. It is on by default, but if another program turns it off...

Do not buy Kaspersky. It is known for causing crashes in Windows 7 and Vista, and it is unnecessary anyway. Go with the equally good MSE and Windows Firewall, without paying a dime.

Just in case the Windows Firewall got messed up, open an elevated command prompt and enter netsh advfirewall reset

MSE is quite good. It works together with the windows firewall. I think there is no advantage if you used Kaspersky. NIS10 seems to be a little better than MSE - but that also is a question of opinion. In addition to MSE I suggest to make a weekly scan with SuperAntiSpyware or Malwarebytes. Both are good scanners.

Crash on Brand new Dell Studio 15

    Hi,

I'd really apreciate if you could help me with my laptop. Is a brand new dell sudio 1558 running windows 7 ultimate 64 bits. It shows a blue screen error sometimes. I bought it just one month ago and it has shown me 4 BSOD until now.

I am attaching the dmp file to see if you could give me a help with it.

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome!

Please remove McAfee with this tool: http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe

    Replace with MSE: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

Are you using any webcams? Try removing them and see what happens.
