CNNMoney - Conan O'Brien is reportedly close to signing a $40 million deal to walk away from "The Tonight Show" and end a weeks-long controversy between the late-night host and NBC.

According to the Wall Street Journal. The potential deal would bar O'Brien from "bad-mouthing" his former bosses at NBC but would allow him to take another television job within one year, the Journal said.

I like Conan, but $40 million is ridiculous.

That's a lot of $$$, but I wonder if he could resist bad-mouthing them after he left?

There's always a way around officially 'bad mouthing'.

"I have a 'friend' that works at 'another network' and guess what happened to him?"

or

"I just LOVE the management at NBC." Said with heavy dose of sarcasm and a wink.

$40 million can be used to pay some serious lawyer fees.

That could be said for both. I don't watch them that much. For me, Leno's monologue was okay - the show went down hill after that. And, I'm way out of Conan's target age. It's the money that's news for me. Kinda like the ridiculous amount paid to sports stars. Then they beg for more.

Was Leno's 10PM show any different from when he hosted Tonight Show? Just wondering why the 10PM show failed so hard in the ratings. Maybe they should put Leno on SNL...that show can't get much worse, he might actually improve it.

Leno sucks. I think that shows in the fact that he had a primetime show and completely bombed. Because of that, Conan paid the price. Sure, he's getting a ton of money to go away, but he's also having his dream job taken away.

I hope he does go to Fox. I'll keep watching. If not, Letterman is funnier than Leno anyway.

That new Leno show just kind of dragged. His Tonight show was OK cause he keep it moving. I think he tried to be another "talk" show and it didn't work. Never did care for Conan. I guess Letterman is having a ball.
