Earthquake thread

I understand that, but considering the fact that I have never seen a tornado, despite living decades in an area known for them, it is easy to not be overly concerned about them. I wonder how many Californians that have spent an equal amount of time in that state can say the same? The idea of being buried alive in the rubble is not something that I would care for at all.

That's usually on the extreme side, My two most memorable ones were the 1989 quake, which was pretty hectic and lots of damage. The other was when I was just a kid, and walking behind my Grandparents restaurant and it just started rolling, I could see the ground rising and falling, pretty scary at first, but it was like a rollercoaster.

Which is what the majority of them feel like. They all get your attention though.

Tornado's on the other hand, look scary as hell to me. Houses, people, livestock and everything else just flying through the air. :shock:

Unless you watch The Wizard Of OZ, any people, houses, etc. that fly through the air are already dead or destroyed, and people nearby do not see anything except dust and debris...except in the trail left behind. Like with most any form of sudden death disasters, it is over before the actual victims actually suffer...with the exception of a tsunami. The only thing that I feel is worse than that, would be a fire.

Last big quake here was 1989. They have tornados every year. Give me shaking ground!

BUT, it is a most disconcerting feeling to have the whole area shake violently. We had a 3.6 last night (nearer to Derek). It was just a quick shake, but every time you wonder if it will go on, or stop. The 1989 quake was the 1st one that made me think, get the heck out of the building. And for months after, a truck rumbling by, or people running on the walkway of my building made me tense up. But all said, the only damage to me was my power was out, and there was some damage at work. The BIG ONE...well, that will be another thing altogether! :shock:

I do not know of any particular location that has tornados every year. Of course, if you include a wide area, such as the US or greater, then tornados would occur frequently, but then the same would be true of earthquakes also. In the location that I live, there has never been a tornado in recorded history, or even in Indian history.
