Safe mode works, Starting Normally does not

Hi guys,

Whenever I try to turn my computer on, it passes the Bios screen and the "Starting Windows" screen with the windows logo animation, but then goes black for 15 seconds and reboots.

I can boot up fine in safe mode. I've tried Startup Repair, chkdsk /r /f, and System Restore to no avail. I even tried what someone suggested on a forum by choosing selective startup in MSConfig and disabling all services but system services, but I got the same black screen & reboot.

I've tried to do a repair install but I can't do it from the disk and I can't do it from safe mode.

Anybody have any ideas? I know it can't be too big because windows safe mode works and all my files are there. My Ubuntu partition is working fine as well.

Running Windows 7 64Bit on an Alienware m9750 (yes Alienwares suck, I know)

I really appreciate any help.

Worst case scenario would be a virus. My old XP machine had a similar issue, where it showed the loading screen but then just restarted itself. These were in the days where I didn know about Linux, so you can probably still recover your data. By system restore, you mean the windows thing that goes back in time? If so, oh dear :/
Best thing I could recommend is fully delete any new stuff that you think may have causes it, and if possible, try and get Microsoft security essentials to run in safe mode to scan for viruses.

Dang...
a virus would be really weird, as it hasn't been connected to the internet in weeks.

I guess I'll have avast run in safe mode
