For a few days now, I've been getting lots of BSOD's. These are caused by athrx.sys, which is the driver for my Atheros WLAN card. (error=DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL)
I run Windows 7 on an ASUS X59GL.
I've tried to use other drivers(newer, older, from Asus, from Microsoft Update...) but I keep getting the BSOD.
In attachment the latest minidumps.

Welcome to SF!

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers completely using Driver Sweeper?

These old drivers could stand an update:
Code:
[font=lucida console]sncduvc.SYS  Mon Dec 29 04:14:26 2008
nvm62x64.sys Fri Oct 17 17:01:06 2008
agrsm64.sys Mon Nov 10 10:01:35 2008
ASMMAP64.sys Sun Feb 04 14:52:56 2007
ghaio.sys Mon May 30 05:34:05 2005
sncduvc.SYS Mon Dec 29 04:14:26 2008
[/font]

In particular, I am concerned about ghaio.sys. Go here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

Download the latest Asus PC Probe utility from there.

Now, the next step is a clean install. See this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/20146-custom-install-windows-7-a.html

If that doesn't work, I suspect you may need to buy a new wireless card.

You may turn Driver Verifier off now.

I just started getting the BSOD, it was directly cause by a Windows optional update. The moment the update installed, BSOD. As long as I kept my Atheros wireless adapter turned off, no issue. Turn it on, BSOD. The updates is "Qualcomm Atheros Communications Inc. - Network-Qualcomm Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter". There is no KB number or version number shown on the update. The software was released in June 2012, and the update was published July 4th or 5th. A simple fix was to turn off the wireless card before Windows loads and then do a system restore to go back to the previous driver (version 2.0.0.75) and then hide the update. Yes it is an old driver but it works without causing BSODs. BTW, OS is Windows 7 64bit...

Bad Computer..
It worked for me too. I just rolled back the update, but it is still obnoxious having the update still there. Are there any fixes to this? Or is Microsoft working on a fix for this?

Same thing here, using the optional windows update caused the BSOD (blue screen of death) and the only fix was disable the wireless to finally allow it to boot and then roll back the driver and just hide the update later I guess.

I would expect better from MS than allowing their Windows Update to install something that leads to an instant BSOD on a pretty common laptop. Maybe I'm wrong and its a super rare issue but it seems like a lack of proper testing to me.

EDIT* I wonder if we should create a new post in order to alert the people at MS?
