Hi, after posting in a previous thread about why my laptop continues to BSOD, it was determined that the athrx.sys file appears to be the root of the problem. Could anyone direct me to a working, up to date version of this file so I can try and replace it? I have looked and am unsure of what it is needed or how to update it.

Thank you

What is the name of the device? AR something? I'll need the numbers to help you find the correct driver.

Did you verify that the date of the driver changed?

Actually no, I clicked find the software myself, selected the unzipped folder and it said Windows has determined the driver is up to date. I then clicked search through a list of drivers on the computer, 2 of which came up, both of the same device name but one with (Atheros) and one with (Microsoft). I have tried updating to both options, and after neither did the date of the driver change.

Do you have a vendor for your computer? Sony, Dell, Toshiba, etc.?

It's a Compaq Presario CQ61. It originally came with Vista but due to a hard drive upgrade, I have since installed 7.

Were you able to stop your BSODs with the wireless driver? Do you still need a more up to date driver? Let us know if you are still having problems.

Windows Update

I got this when I updated the adapter via windows update. It took trying to update twice to realize what happened. I had to repair windows 1st (from boot menu). I then updated only the drivers, before trying to get SP1, the computer crashed and woudlnt boot again.

Once again with the athrx.sys BSOD.

Get the drivers from the manufactures website. MS's drivers dont always work with OEMs adapters, which is why you usually have to get them from the site after a windows install.

I dont know if you will encounter this as well, but I also had to use the windows update troubleshooter to repair update before I could get win update working again. (I guess since it bluescreened during an update. I had to do this both times)

Joined this community just to post on this. I battled this problem for a couple days. This was happening on our Dell Latitude 3440 laptops. Look at your Channel Bandwidth on your wireless router (WAP). When it is configured 20/40MHz, the laptops BSOD within 30 seconds. When configured for only 20MHz, it is completely stable.
It was happening on 5 laptops (all I have at the moment). There is only one driver online as of 12/30/13, so upgrading the driver was a dead end. Atheros' website wasn't helpful either.

Dell/Atheros please fix, I never heard of a WAP causing a laptop to BSOD. Let me know if this was helpful.
