Just now uploading the imageres.dll for 32 bit . Later tonight I will install 64 bit win 7 on my linux machine, and will make 64 bit imageres.dll file .

To change those files, you may use Browsing deviantART , But it is better to have a manual backup of your original imageres.dll in a secured place, for further manual return to the original system files ; and Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup , for any critical need .
will this work for XP x64 pro?
Hi Linda , You may do it with two alternatives . In post 11 , I uploaded a 64 bit imageres.dll ; you may download all the seven parts to get it , and replace with the original one .

Otherwise , you may download the ico files from post 4, and make your own imageres (whatever the bit may be ) by editing the corresponding icongroup numbers ( a detailed tutorial link is below my sig).

If you have any further query , just ask me . If you have any ideas about what an icon may be, please let me know . I am glad that you liked it
Arc, she has XP...don't think XP had a imageres.dll??

Folder Icons : Change using Resource Hacker .

Hi Friends ! Probably it is a duplication of my previous post Icons - Change Using Resource Hacker ; but still I am posting it , lest somebody feels it is hard to do in practice . In fact, it is just a easy work, and dont involve any laborious task .

So let us start . We are changing the folder icons , and we know that a folder icon (windows live folder icon) is a combination of four icons, whose numbers are 4, 5, 6 and 162 respectively in imageres.dll . That means in fact we are changing the four icons in imageres .

    1. Open your resource hacker, Click on file > open ; it will open an window naming "open file continuing resource ...." make it sure that the location of look in box is System 32 . Type the filename "imageres.dll" , click the open button .

    See Through Folder Icon Set-1.jpg

    2. Click on the plus sign in front of "Icon Group"

    See Through Folder Icon Set-2.jpg

    3. Now change 3, 4, 5, and 6 respectively with the downloaded icons ( detailed process of changing is there in the tutorial ) {for both 3 and 4, use supplied icon 4}

    See Through Folder Icon Set-3.jpg

    4. Scroll down to 162, and change it .

    See Through Folder Icon Set-4.jpg

    5. Now File > Save As ... in the "Save File As" window, set the save location to Desktop, give the filename "imageres.dll" and save .

So your custom imageres.dll file is ready . Now it is to apply .

    6. Take ownership (not describing here ) of the original imageres.dll , have a manual backup of it , and place the modded one to C:\Windows\System32 , choose Copy and Replace, if prompted .

So your custom folder icon set is done . Now make it workable

7 . To make the icons take effect , you are to Icon Cache - Rebuild

    Now you are done .

EDIT : If icongroup 3 is not edited, a blank newly created folder will not look like the modded icon unless there is some stuff in it . So editing icon 3 is must , and it is to be done with supplied icon 4 .

Not only rebuilding icon cache , but also deleting thumbnail cache is required to take the changed icons effect . So better run disk cleanup once after replacing imageres.dll and restarting machine .

Otherwise , you can change icons ( in 4 th post of the thread ) using resource hacker, anytime
Arc, this is superb work. What great creations!
