Good one, Boohbah.
Very nice!
Wenda.
I often have no choice.
There are many things that I'm not yet knowledgeable or experienced enough to do, so I sometimes use 'stock' images from the internet, often modified to suit my needs. I don't bother about the small stuff, but
if a major part of anything I post is not my work, I will usually indicate this in the accompanying text. Certainly some of my very early attempts contained a lot that wasn't 'my' work, they had to as I was not capable of doing many things myself. As I've improved and gained more skill and experience, the ratio of 'my' work to that of 'others' that I've had to use, has steadily increased.
If we all had to create everything from scratch, every time, not much would get done, I suspect.
Wenda.
yeah most images we use will come from a google image search, i guess thats standard. if its a direct copy of something then i think we should say so or at least give the original artist a mention.
A generic stock background image I will generally not attribute it like the rusty plate in my Man of Steel Wall as it is not the primary object. If I use a tutorial in its entirety I will attribute that.
i dont think sourcing images from the internet is cheating , how we put them together is our concept.
i felt i needed to give pavlo the creator of the psd i used a mention, as i wanted it to be clear that i did not make the buttons.
if i took a huge wallpaper and added a seven on it and claimed it to be a custom seven wallpaper that would technically be correct but not perhaps ethically.
taking several wallpapers and blending them and creating a whole new image would be ok.
just my take on it.
i remember a campaign by someone on deviant art who slated some of the gfx members here for stealing work.
obviously the person was crazy and had an issue with the forum members but i wouldnt want that to happen to me.
i messaged pavlo and thanked him and also linked him an image of the sig i made for alan.
if it turns out i shouldnt have then i will take it down but as he made the psd available i guess its for use to use as we see fit.
just good form to give the artist a credit if its clearly their work.
im not suggesting anyone is a cheat,
it was a glib comment about my own feelings about my last sig.
