How do I change MPC-HC icons?

I have almost finished customizing my setup and changing icons and the like using various utilities. One thing has been irking me, though. In the corner of each thumbnail on video files is the ugly little mcp-hc icon. I'm a bit OCD and I need to replace it.
I have resource hacker but have just started using it and am not sure what I am doing exactly. Can anyone walk me through this?
I don't know much about editing registry entries but I gotta start somewhere.
Unless there is another way I am not aware of.
    Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
    Thanks guys

Go to the program's folder, select the app's executable and open (r-clik) properties. Go to the 'Icons' tab and choose a different icon.

    There is no icons tab...
There is General, Compatability, Digital Signatures, Previous Versions, Details, & Security but none of them seem to have any customization options.

I opened the exe with Resource Hacker and changed the icon for the program by right clicking on the icon folder and substituting my own icon. All it changed (seemingly) was the icon that shows in the top left corner of the program when it is open as well as the exe itself - but all of the files associated with the program still have the same icons. I've never ripped into an .exe before. Feels good! Still need help, though =]

OMG I got it to work! Sweet thanks, I just needed to give it a minute and refresh and awesomeness. My media player icon is now exactly what I wanted it to be and I now also know how to change the icon of programs. Tyty!

And upon even more investigating I noticed that it only replaced the icon for when it is shows in Medium/Large view...but for extra large it still shows the original icon and for small it shows an AVI icon (which I think can be toggled from within thr program itself). So I am on the right track but I need it to apply to extra large as well. Any ideas? I can try making the icon bigger and see if it carries over...

Made the icon 512x512 and now it covers extra large. Thanks again!

strange, I have that tab. could it be because my .exe is for the 64-bit version? Anyways, glad all's well.

When replacing icons you need to use a variety of sizes for the icon to display correctly in all views/ resolutions.

You need to create a replacement icon containing the images sizes shown in the screenshots.

I would really think it be cool to have a tutorial for this. I have many programs with ugly icons that I would love to "easily" replace.

It's not always straightforward. See: Customizing Google Chrome Icon Solved - Windows 7 Help Forums

So sometimes it is not a simple as modifying the .exe's icon.

My personal choice: Leave icons for default apps as they are and modify icons for portable apps if I feel the need.

There's no way I want video icons to display thumbnails either. I just use an app to display video thumbnails in explorer instead.

    EDIT: Just for info.

Also free version of Seer portable run on demand gives video/ music/ image previews when pressing space bar instead of launching media players/ viewers.

EDIT: Seer is not portable. Sorry I forgot that it needs to be installed. It is run on demand although there's an option to start with windows.

It seems a waste of time. I mean -anytime you update the program and the .exe gets replaced you'll need to do the whole thing again.
