I was not able to make this driver file work. However I did find a workaround to my problem.
These steps did resolve the issue:
1. Open Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del)
2. Click Sevices Tab and then Services Button (Bottom Right)
3. Under Name find "Windows Update"
4. Right click "Windows Update" and select Stop. do not close
5. Open Window Exploper and browse to C:\Windows
6. Delete the Folder "SoftwareDistribution"
7. Go back to Servies, Right click "Windows Update" and select Start
After this, do your usual routine to install the printer, and select "Windows Update" to find driver (it shouldn't fail now), and afterwards, you should be able to find the correct (in this case LaserJet 5si) driver.
I hope this helps.
I thought you were looking for the 5N driver, which is what my original post is about. I've used the same file on 3 different Win7 installs and it's never failed me.
Hopefully you didn't delete anything important in that folder. There are a lot of log files and install files in there
Strange happenings.......of course we are working with Windows, so it's somewhat expected........
I was looking for the 5N driver. I did not delete anything in that folder. I was only able to see one file and it was not the driver file. So I contimued my quest and found the above info on the forum and this has worked numerous times for me. thanks for all of your help and troubles that you went thru to help me.
Hello, I would also love to have a copy of that driver. I am running W7, vers 64. Can you send it to my email at michael.dematties-work@uwrf.edu?
The file is on the way to you, Michael! After you save the attached file in the email, when you go to install the printer and it asks for the driver location, use the "Have File..." options and locate the oem25.inf file. The HP5N as well as a bunch of other golden oldies, are in there also.
I can't verify that it will absolutely work on your 64-bit software, but I'm thinking it should be backward compatible.
Hope it helps you out!!! Good luck!!!

I have 2 HP Laserjet 5N printers. If Keyboards or anyone else could send me the driver it would be very much appreciated.
