Hi everyone,

So windows Vista crashed the other day on my 3 year old Sony VGC-LT18E. Recovery didn't work or anything. So i wiped the drive and did a fresh install with Windows 7. And you guessed it, none of the Sony stuff work.

After about 6 hours, and help from this forum, I finally got my NVIDIA 8400M graphis card updated with new drivers, but still trying to get the rest of them. No webcam, microphone or SD slots.

I've been looking for the past couple hours and haven't gotten anywhere. Sony is about as much help as you'd expect them to be. No plan to update drivers for a computer that originally came with Vista.

Anyone have any thoughts/advice? I even tried unplugging the camera, and plugging it back in (it's pretty much like a laptop camera, built into the computer, so I took it all apart to do that.)

Windows loads a generic USB camera that dosen't do anything and no program will find the camera.

Thanks! :D

Welcome to Seven Forums.
Since you previously had Vista installed I'm guessing you had the 32 bit version, because you shouldn't have any problems using the Vista drivers in compatibility mode http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html Vista of course unless they only offer them in the 32 bit version.

If this is the case your going to have to go to each device>properties>details tab>drop down menu> select hardware id> Copy and Paste each of the device's hardware strings on the forum and we will have to see of we can find a 64 bit Sony driver that will work.

This is another case that before you updated to Windows Seven 64 bit you should have run the Windows Upgrade
Advisor Free Download PC Upgrade Advisor Windows 7 Hardware Programs Issues

It is possible we can find drivers that will work it's just to bad if you upgraded from Vista 32 bit to Seven 64 bit with your laptop.
Since if your laptop can't use more then 2-3 gigabytes of ram your not going to be able to take full advantage of a 64bit OS anyways.

Thanks for the reply. I could have sworn it had 64-bit Vista on it, but I could be wrong.

I didn't have a chance to run the upgrade advisor, the upgrade to Windows 7 was un-intentional, Vista completly crashed. :) Is there any way/need to reload windows 7 with the 32 bit version (I have the disk). currently, I have 4 GB of RAM in the computer?

I'll also see if I can get some of the details about the hardware. Funny thing is I downloaded the drivers for the microphone and sound card off of sony's website (even though they're for vista) and they seem to have worked just fine. I have a microphone again.

Thanks! :D

So the SD card should be under Base System Device driver either Ricoh or Texas insturments
.
Would you mind linking me to the site? also you can still use the Copy and Paste hardware id method for finding fdrivers.

That driver was just what I was looking for, made the camera work again!

Well, until the computer crashed again today...

Hello,

I have the exact same problem, same hardware ID. I tried to download the file but it seems that the server is no longer supporting this file.

I can download the file but when I runt it, it needs to download the components but apparently the server is non-responsive. This is the error I get:

"Fatal download error

the download failed with the following errors:
unexpectedly small file
MD5 mismatch

Please check your internet connection and try again
Please try downloading the file directly (http://members.driverguide.com/installer/?ax=f&id=1628665&auth=0cafd658731079e4b325e8e9e00067d7)"

and the direct link is expired.

Does anyone know of another link that might work.

Thank you.
