Hi,

I have an odd problem regarding this PC. It's quite old, coming up to over 2 years old now but it's been a torrent of problems since I passed it down to my sister.

First of all, it has more ram than the stock model, 4GB. First the problems started when the screen went black and we could not do anything. So my mother purchased Windows 7 and we did a fresh wipe of the computer. However there is a persisting problem. On the screen are odd yellow stripes going all the way down. I managed to rectify this problem by reinstalling the graphics card drivers but this was back when it was running windows vista (the problem soon arose again, before blackscreening and us having to install windows 7).

Which brings me to my next problem. This PC runs a nvidia geforce 8400M GT. I've tried getting the windows 7 64bit version of the driver from the nvidia website but the installer says it cannot detect the hardware for that driver. So I'm in a bit of a pickle with how to resolve this issue.

We cannot get the original drivers from the sony vaio website because they are for windows vista and 32 bit.

I hope you can all understand my story, ask any questions if you need to :P I'd appreciate any help in getting this sorted. My last resort is going into a sony store and enquiring (their help-line is 35p a minute). But as I said I've managed to fix this issue before by reinstalling graphics drivers.

Thanks in advance for any help.

-Jon

Yellow strips can indicate overheating or a failing card.
Try blowing the system out with compressed air.

Second, are you sure this is a 64-bit OS?
Check in System Properties. It will show either 32-bit or 64-bit.
