You may be able to do the following – turn off raid in the bios firstly depending on whether you want to keep using raid or change to IDE and have 2 separate drives.
Your board may have an intel chip for raid and ide - you could unplug the drives
from the promise raid and plug your drives into the intel raid chip - consult your motherboard manual on how to set up raid prior to OS installation, and then w7 will load the driver for it automatically during installation, and once your OS is installed you install the intelmatrix driver software. The intel chip may only support IDE but at least you will be able to install w7- some had both options - consult your motherboard manual.
You may not be able to get a driver to install using the F6 method for the promise raid controller, as you have pointed out, so hopefully the above apply 's to you.
*Also you would disable the promise controller in the bios prior to this, and enable the intel controller.

i got mine working by using the original XP driver

maybe the driver needs to be signed to load at boot.

anyway mine is 376 fasttrak from a MSI k7n2 delta board
i used the driver here
MSI Europe – Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more

the file driver name is: nVidia nForce2 SATA RAID Driver (For floppy driver) version 1.0.0.19
although its the promise driver

all further versions don't seem to work with me.

i also tried a PCI sata card, however i can't bypass the promise or disable it. just it hangs

Wooo I made it!

I signed in to this forum just to give you the solution, hope google search will help more people on this matter.

The driver i downloaded is

http://s89934018.onlinehome.us/DRIVER/promise378.zip

which i found from another thread/forum can't remember..

THE TRICK IS TO TURN, AT BIOS, THE CONTROLLER TO RAID MODE AND NOT SATA or IDE MODE.

extract to a folder the 64bit folder of the zip, or the 32bit if you want windows 7 32bit(not tested ). and place that folder on a usb stick/ floppy or other.

1) At BIOS SETUP SCREENS, set the ide controller to RAID!!! (not SATA or IDE)
2) enter the raid controller setup at boot (ctrl F i think) and create an array with the only hard disk you have( raid 0 stripe)
then
3) boot to windows 7 64bit installation dvd
4) at the message "you have no drives, install a driver", browse and point to the folder 64b (or 32b)

after this, you will get the option to load the promise driver AND ALL WILL WORK FLAWLESSLY AFTER THAT!!

The trick was to set the controller at bios, to RAID MODE and not SATA/IDE Mode. Without doing so, you would load the driver at win7 setup but you still wouldnt see the hard disk, thats where i thought of this alteration in bios setup... Also, in case you want to have another hard disk in, i assume, by creating another array with just a single hard disk (the new one) will be fine.

Considering i installed win7 64bit to an old laptop that had this controller for the hard disks, which were ide...it will work for all you guys!

Thanks for the info. I was trying to install Windows 7 x64, and wanted to use ATA mode to avoid going through iffy data recovery at some point. I gave up only after days of frustration with the whole Win 7 install process and driver buggery. When I finally got into Windows with drivers (WHQL no less?), I found they were causing data corruption on other ATA/IDE drives! When I work up the patience again I might try x86 but looks like there are only a couple ATA drivers and possibly unsigned. Looks like others are in the same boat, maybe this info will help...

Hello boys and girls :) Your problem is solved, simply install these drivers.
I used the drivers from the Win XP.
Sorry for my English :)

Thank you for this. been looking around for the 64 bit promise 378 drivers for my asus K8V SE Deluxe. windows server 2011 now detects my drive in setup. but when setup is about to start copying files a fatal error pops up.
