Network Adapters Not Working! HELP!

Hi I really need help,
Under device manager I have the yellow exclamation points and when I open up properties my network adapters' device status says, "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"
I have selected Upgrade Driver, allowing it to use the default drivers in my C:// drive, as well as downloading the drivers off the company website (with a different computer and transferring the files with a thumb drive) and installing them by selecting "Let me pick..." The end result is it says, "The parameter is incorrect"
I have used sfc /scannow in cmd
I have done a chkdsk /f in cmd

Gateway Laptop Model NV59
OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Network Adapter Atheros AR5B97 Wireless Adapter
Network Adapter Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet #3 (I don't know why is says #3)

I've spent hours searching, downloading, transferring, installing, uninstalling, back to searching and repeating. Please help me, I don't know what else to do. Is all lost? I don't want to have to buy a new laptop yet.

No, I have't re-installed Windows on this computer ever. The drivers simply stopped connecting to the internet. At first it would show the available networks, but only had "Limited connectivity". Now, after I've tried all of this, it doesn't even show the available networks.
I went out today to buy an external adapter to plug into my USB, but it wouldn't let me install it so I returned the adapter. The computer recognizes my mouse just fine, but not the adapter. Windows just tried to install the external adapter without letting the program from the CD even recognize it is plugged in. This is a weird situation: I think it needs internet to get the internet drivers working, and I don't know how to do that.
The result of the system scan showed one segments had an error and it was cleared up when I rebooted and did a chkdsk on startup.

Windows 7 x64 (Ultimate)

Have you ran Antivirus and Malware? perhaps a pesky varmint highjacked you rig?

If not, try going to the internet on a friends computer, go to the manufacturer of your laptop, search for Chipset Drivers (make sure you know the brand and correct model) and try installing those.

I would try uninstalling the old drivers first, then going into Safe Mode and run CCleaner to get rid of any old remnants of those drivers and then install a fresh copy of it.

Download some newer devices because these Network adapters are wasteful ,if you get them from a USB and catches virus person to person for your system to be avoided to wrongful operations ......

Im with Astalavista on this one. Make sure you uninstall the old drivers first before attempting to install new ones; otherwise it might not solve the issue.
