Windows 7 installer not able to find SATA RAID device driver

I have XP running with a Samsung 840 EVO SSD:
Motherboard: ASUS P5KPL-CM
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7400 @ 2.80 GHz
AMIBIOS:
Version 0606
Build date 03/11/09
Bios IDE Config:
ATA/IDE Configuration [Enhanced]
Enhanced Mode Support on [S-ATA]

I have swapped the current SSD for a new one (nothing on it) and want to install Windows 7 onto it. On booting from the installer 7 DVD disk I'm getting:

Select the driver to be installed:
Load the driver:

"A required CD/DVD drive driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk. CD, DVD or USB flash drive..."

It then asks you to browse the missing driver.

From looking at the forum's I think this error is due installer not being able to find the SATA device driver.

It needs something like:

Intel (R) 6 Series C100 Series Chipset Family 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller

What I'm confused about is that I must have a SATA device driver as I have one SSD
running under XP. So is it just a case of finding this device driver in an XP windows folder?
Or do I need a more modern one - an ACHI SATA driver for running under Windows 7?

The other confusing thing is that the forums point one at the motherboard manufacturer
for the driver but ASUS don't have anything on the website. So is it intel I should be looking at or in fact Samsung!

Thanks for any pointers.

You need to put in a USB drive key the "Intel® Matrix Storage Manager" drivers (F6) dedicated to windows 7. That's the one missing you have to browse during Windows 7 Installation:

here Intel® Matrix Storage Manager and pick up the F6 drivers "f6flpy3289.zip" (for x32bits of Windows 7) or "f6flpy6489.zip" if you plan install x64bits of Windows 7, extract the files in the USB Drive & plug it before starting the Windows 7 Install CD.

and pick up also "IATA89CD.exe" to install the software monitoring after you have finished windows 7 install. It should be the right ones as your motherboard ASUS P5KPL-CM support Intel G31/ICH7 Chipset.

or you could skip browsing the drivers and try afterward this method.

AHCI : Enable in Windows 7 after OS install then install the Intel matrix storage manager monitoring software afterward if needed.

Bios will have to be set as "Enhanced Mode Support on [S-ATA]" prior to install.

Thanks for the info.

Have tried extracting f6flpy6489.zip to a USB stickand then browsing to these files after
the 'DVD/CD driver missing error' - unfortunately with the 'Hide devices that are not compatible
with hardware on this computer' box checked no drivers were listed. If I uncheck the box a dozen Intel
SATA ACHI and RAID Controllers are listed but on clicking on any of the ACHI ones and clicking 'Next' I get
the error:

'No new devices could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media'.

So it looks like all these drivers are incompatible.

Had a quick look at the 'ACHI: Enable in Windows 7 after OS install' but I guess I still need the approapiate
SATA ACHI driver and I think the 'Next' button is greyed out after the 'DVD/CD driver missing error' so can't proceed with the installation.

Are there any other Intel SATA ACHI drivers I could try?

Your board is quite old now and it might needs a previous Intel Matrix Storage Technology v6 or V7...as the version 8 given above doesn't work. Or maybe ATK drivers that can be found on the support web page of your board (is an after OS Install)

Maybe those one: Version: 7.8.0.1012 but those are not F6 floppy/usb install. Is a full software after OS install. You need to search for the "device ID" of your Intel (R) 6 Series C100 Series Chipset Family 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller.

Version 7.8.0.1012:
The Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager is designed to provide
functionality for the following Storage Controllers:
- Intel(R) 82801IR/IO SATA RAID Controller
- Intel(R) 82801IR/IO SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) 82801HEM SATA RAID I/O Controller
- Intel(R) 82801HBM SATA AHCI I/O Controller
- Intel(R) 82801HR/HH/HO SATA RAID Controller
- Intel(R) 82801HR/HH/HO SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) 631xESB/632xESB SATA RAID Controller
- Intel(R) 631xESB/632xESB SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) 82801GHM SATA RAID Controller
- Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) 82801GR SATA RAID Controller
- Intel(R) 82801GR SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) 82801GH SATA RAID Controller
- Intel(R) 82801GH SATA AHCI Controller

This product is available for use on systems using the
Intel(R) Pentium(R) Processor or Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processor
with the following I/O Controller Hubs:

- Intel(R) 82801IR/IO I/O Controller Hub (ICH9R)
- Intel(R) 82801HEM I/O Controller Hub (ICH8ME)
- Intel(R) 82801HBM I/O Controller Hub (ICH8M)
- Intel(R) 82801HR/HH/HO I/O Controller Hub (ICH8R)
- Intel(R) 631xESB/632xESB I/O Controller Hub (631xESB/632xESB)
- Intel(R) 82801GHM I/O Controller Hub (ICH7MR)
- Intel(R) 82801GBM I/O Controller Hub (ICH7M)
- Intel(R) 82801GR I/O Controller Hub (ICH7R)
- Intel(R) 82801GH I/O Controller Hub (ICH7DH)

I suggest you to skip the F6 Intel drivers install and prefer the AHCI method given in the tutorial above post #2

Thanks for the info - I think my best option is to update the motherboard
so will give this a go and re-try the 7 installer
