ADI 198x Audio: Anyone solve this yet? Win7 64-bit

I've tried several 'fixes' today to get ADI 198x audio working under W7 ultimate 64, no luck so far but I may be going about it wrongheaded. This is on a Dell optiplex gx620
Supposedly the best approach is to unpack the wad from Intel, and manually force the driver but I think the posters may have referred to an earlier file; the one I got is self/extract/install - fails.

Can someone coach me on this pls?

zapp22 , download the audio file in this link Drivers & Downloads the only driver available is XP 64bit you will have to load this in compat mode Compatibility Mode when you have done that , go to device manager and update the driver from there :)

    question

    trying it now, Peb.
    thanks so much

question: when you say "run in compatibility mode", won't that seek to install the driver? a tad confused as to sequence.

i'll be back shortly with results

    Worked like juju!!
to clarify for others who encounter the same:
    - download the wad from Dell
    - Unpack in Compatibility mode [XP, SP3]
    - Stop the auto after it is unzipped etc
    - Browse the setup.exe, mark it "Compatibility mode - xp sp3" also.
    - Run it.
    - Reboot
    - When Win7 comes up, it will say "device driver for ADI not installed", but it actually IS installed. you're done.

I did as Pebbly had suggested, going to Device Manager, Update Driver, pointed it to the folder, but it said "best driver already installed".
works beautifully. plugged in my speakers and 'voila' '

    yay

Alternatively you could unpack the dell exe file with 7zip or any other and tell device manager where you unpacked it to find driver and Wa la, no compatibility needed. Just had to do this so I know it works.
