    Windows 7 Upgrade Pre-ordering

I installed Windows 7 build 7100 and love it but wonder what's required for the home premium upgrade package when I have to buy. I was using XP (upgrade package from 98). Does that qualify? I have the CDs for both Upgrade XP and 98 so If during the install it asks I could pop them in.

    Am I good to go?

    Thanks,

    Tom

If you have Windows XP or Windows 2000, you can purchase Windows 7 Upgrade versions. But you must back up your files, clean install, and reinstall your applications.
Buy, download Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade from Microsoft Store

wow.. these prices are just so high, $219 just for the UPGRADE for Ultimate, that's pretty pricey, I was expecting them to be less. I know this is cheaper than Vista, and that is a good thing, but I personally think M$ needs to be much cheaper, as the times are hard, and people lost faith with Vista. they need to run win 7 for cheap, so everyone buys it. in the end I think that would benefit them. as most people will like it I think.

Also, So I have Win XP from my old HP computer that is in the other room. It's just chillin in there. but the system still runs. If I upgrade to Win 7 and buy for cheap. that serial and XP wont work anymore right?

    These are pretty high prices.

If you choose the upgrade option, it'll install over XP, so you won't be able to run XP anymore, unless the upgrades give the option to let you do an advanced install and let you put it on a new partition. And as I've learned, the key for the win7 will only work on that machine from then on out, for reinstalls and stuff. But you wouldn't be able to use that key on a different machine.

    High Pricing

Man, if you think the US pricing is high, you should see the Australian pricing. Its outrageous!
I seriously hope the reported Australian pricing is wrong.

    I don't see where I can specify a 32 or 64 bit version ...
Will this be like the XP > Vista upgrade where I have to pay an extra (and excessive) S&H to get the 64 bit version ??
