How about using previous display driver version? Sometimes this works.
Also change the settings in any Power Management tabs in Device Manager on Network Adapters, Mice, etc.
I haven't tried that, but I did uninstall the video driver completely and it wouldn't standby. I'll try that...
Standard VGA driver doesn't support sleep. You'll need one of the more recent drivers, but not necessarily the most recent. Try them all.
Are you using the chipset drivers given by installer, or from the computer or mobo maker's Support Downloads webpage? Try both.
Do you have any drivers cued in optional Windows Updates? These along with the drivers first given by the installer should be your default drivers.
I used the latest drivers from Asus for the chipset. All other drivers and updates in windows update (Inc optional) are installed.
Well I think I have it fixed. For some reason, after uninstalling my wireless mouse/keyboard combo and re-installing, my sleep and screensaver is working now. What's even stranger is that it's a Microsoft product. You would think that windows update/Microsoft update would have caught that.
I figured it was a driver problem, but what a pain it is to troubleshoot that. Thanks for all of the help!
Now set a Restore point titled "Sleeps" so you can roll back to it if sleep stops working again.
I'd even Configure more disk space so the restore points hang around longer in Control panel>System>Advanced Options>System Protection.
It might also be a good time to save a Win7 backup image so you can reimage the HD to a known-good point in time if SysRestore loses the point or fails, or if Win7 becomes irreparable: Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup
These are the things I do with machines prone to insomnia.
