Hi All
I am also a first time poster experiencing a problem with error: ::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}.
Maybe it started a few days ago. I remember talking to my Dad on Skype through the inbuilt laptop speakers (Dell Studio XPS 1640, x64, Windows7 Premium sp.1).
The next day, I had lost audio completely, save for the occasional snatch from Skype sign in, or song in WMP.
The problem escalated say, 2 days later, when I couldn't access documents, pictures, music, games, computer, control panel or devices and printers. Every attempt gets the above error code and a dialogue box thus: [Window Title]
Explorer.EXE
[Content]
No such interface supported
[OK]
However, I could initially view photos through applications like Paint.NET.
So, I trawled Google for solutions to this issue. My drivers are up to date. sfc/ scannow gets to 5%, then Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.
In the little 'Solve PC issues' flag I have some new messages: 'Troubleshoot problem with a device or driver' and 'Address a problem with Skype'. Both of these do jack.
Hmm, system restore perhaps? Tried that, and now I can't even see my photos through paint.NET.
These are of GREAT importance to me. The rest of my computer can eat a brick. I just want the photos.
Oh, can't create another profile, it won't let me. Also, this problem is evident on both admin and guest account.
Please help me recover my photos, then I can set my laptop alight and return it to Dell.

Just a thought but I would download malwarebytes and run it to make sure this isnt malware.
A hardware problem is a whole lot easier to repair.

Also run Super AntiSpyware. Links to both in my sig.:)
Check Microsoft answers, maybe some help.

Progress!
What anti-virus are you presently using?

The error code may be related to a corrupt user profile. I found this answer to the exact error code on Microsoft TechNet Forums (it worked):
"Although you could perform a System File Checker scan (by entering "sfc /scannow" into the Command Prompt) when facing such issues, usually the best way of dealing with a corrupted user profile is to create a new one and migrate all of your settings and data over, either by using the Easy Transfer Wizard or manually."

Did the quick scan solve the issue Squinter? I would certainly do a Full scan as backup to confirm the system is clean.

The solution that worked was to create a new user and migrate all of the settings and data.
