What I did:
1. Went to 2 programs in there Program Folder and right-clicked on the .exe- changed compatibility to VISTA (right-click->Properties->Compatobility)
2. Created a shortcut for each program and put into START menu as described here.
3. Downloaded and installed the program that Darkassain mentioned above, PowerMenu, from here. I also placed this into Starup as described above in item 2.
4. After STARTUP, the program icons will be in the Taskbar, as before. But now, when I Restore/maximize the program and right-click on the minimize button in upper right corner, I have an option to MINIMIZE TO TRAY. Click on that, and BINGO!

That's so much for your help Darkassain for your help.
NOTE: I never did use either of the 2 weather_tray.cmd (32bit and 64bit) files that you uploaded- I am running 64-bit, and I assume that I was supposed to use the 64-bit version-but I could not figure out what I was supposed to do with it!

this was to show how to set it up so that if you have these programs at startup you have them automatically minimized....
using weatherlink as ex

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Powermenu\powermenu.exe" -minimized on weatherlink

this will minimize any window with the name weatherlink on it....

thats what the cmd is....

you place it here
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
that is why if you have that program at startup it will automatically minimize...
which is why i asked you if you want it minimized at startup....
also not all apps will be able to minimize (only 32 bit apps since the the newest version (1.5.something....) has not been updated for some time....

wished it worked in 7, SUSE for that matter though
for what it's worth, here's a small no-install app that can also minimize apps to the system tray. it can also set window transparency, program priority, and lots of other nifty things. working fine in win7 from what i can see. i find it much easier to use than PowerMenu...

the thing is garbanzo powermenu was and still originally a no install app...

this makes it easier for people who dont know what to do (people who only know how to install...)
this is also makes it easier as the program will be in a standard place (which makes it easier to make batch files)

as enough for that i love the idea of the floating icons.....

thanks
it was time ago since i tried this....(when it was 1.0)

fair enough. i just wanted to give an alternative to others who might read this thread. i've used DM2 for ages, and i'm glad to see it works well in win7 :)
