Since your System partition lacks the System flag it needs to have the System boot files rewritten to it.

You'll need the System Repair disk or Win7 installation DVD. You can search for Win7 official ISO download online to burn with ImgBurn at 4x speed the WIn7 DVD which is good to have on hand for Repairs, clean Reinstalling Windows 7 or even rescuiing your files: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console.

If 3 Startup Repairs fail to start Win7 then boot back into PW CD to change the Active flag to Win7 partition itself, try Rebuild MBR and if necessary three Repairs again.

If these fail I'd copy out my files and run Factory Recovery from its partition or disks you made or order from Tech Support, or clean reinstall with the Win7 DVD.

i'm using this guide Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console
to swap out the stuff i need onto a memory card
then i can perform a clean install and delete everything off the laptop
hopefully i'll be able to do that without an error

What changes did you make prior to this occurring? Try to System Restore from DVD System Recovery Options or System Repair Disk back far enough to get before the problem.

Is this a Dual Boot or factory pre-installed Win7?
