:) Welcome to SF, Yimitz.
Hi, friends.
I'm from Scotland. Retired, in my seventies, and been gaming since the days of Fade to Black, Zork, Quake, Duke Nukem and so forth.
What an enormous amount of helpful information here. I spent the last few days reading the long 40+ page thread on upgrading to Windows 7.
I'm currently using Vista Home Premium 32bit but suspect it's time I considered upgrading my March 2007 Dell set up to Windows 7 64bit. My nVidia GeForce 7900GS card seems to be struggling a tad with the recent games although I managed 90% of Tomb Taider. Not much I want to play at present so will probably shut down my Steam and Origin accounts.
I'm keen to try Microsoft FSX. I found a detailed thread on Flight Forum which seems to cover how to get the best out of FSX via Windows 7 but I'm still considering my options.
I'm no expert by any means but I'm happy to give upgrading a shot. Looks as though using the Clean install with a upgrade Windows 7 tutorial may be the applicable one but using the 'repair' option instead of the 'install' to leave my existing (6 years of) stuff untouched.
I've copied all my User files (8G) to a separate plug-in SSD.
Then I presume I could replace my graphics card, then follow all the steps needed to strip Windows 7 down to the basics needed.
As I said, still considering my options, but delighted to find so much helpful information here.
