Windows Security Center service can't be started.
Hello,
This is my first post and, as you can see from the title, I'm getting the message that my Windows Security Center service can't be started. In addition, when browsing the web, I will sometimes click on a link and be sent to a page other than the one I clicked on.
I've read, here on this forum and on others, about this problem happening to others and I've tried some of the solutions that were successful for them, but I've had no success. I still have the little flag in the tool bar and the message.
I've had McAfee installed on this computer since the day I bought it, but I uninstalled it the other day thinking it might be affecting the anti-malware programs from working properly.
In addition to McAfee, the other programs I've tried using are Avast (also now uninstalled), ESET online scanner, CKScanner, SuperAntispyware, MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, Hitman Pro and RKILL. While some of these programs did find a few bad files on my system, and subsequently eliminated them, the problem remains.
I am hoping that someone can help this 'dumb-old-boy' by walking me step-by-step through the process that will cure this problem once and for all.
My system is as follows:
Dell Studio XPS
Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz
6.00 GB Ram
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Operating System, SP1
(any other info needed?)
I realize that this computer is almost 4 years old and was obsolete the moment it left the factory, but it has worked fine for my purposes so far (well, until about 4 days ago! ) and I'd like to get it working properly again.
Any help will be appreciated!
Mike
