Start at the top of the steps and work through them in order. If you have a problem with one then ask back.

Malwarebytes is specified to be run if you can boot in Safe Mode. If you can't get into Safe Mode then move to the next step to burn a WDO CD by downloading it from the link and following the steps to burn a CD, then boot the CD to run a full scan: How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

I'm not entirely convinced that the disk you found wasn't a rogue. Disks and jump drives are left out in the open all the time, just waiting for a victim to check their contents.

Agreeing with previous posts: Boot from repair disk, CMD, chkdsk /r in conjunction with sfc /scannow

Depending on how much time you have to invest in the repair, it may be easier and more effective to reload after a backup or image has been made.

    System Repair Disc - Create

You could create a System Repair Disc, to then access a Command Prompt , which will allow to perform some very useful commands for troubleshooting your problem and getting Windows booting normally.

You will need access to a working computer in order to use this method, but please follow the other very good suggestions listed by the others.

Hi I've burnt a repair disk and I'm getting nothing - just the cannot repair this computer. In response to the rogue disk situation - it's not that I burnt the disk years ago and it works on xp machines. It's just fekked my PC. Thanks for all the advice and help but I've spent a week on this now and got no where with it.

It's really frustrating me and I'm ready to scream at the damn thing. I've got so many important documents on there it really isn't a great situation.

    Cheers

I'm still waiting here to help you through the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

If the Repair CD won't boot then there is a link there to burn a WIn7 Installation DVD or flash stick for your version to use for repairs, or to rescue your files and reinstall.

Instead of just staring mutely at it, why don't you dig into the steps and ask back for our help on each one if you run into problems. I never heard back what your progress was on disinfection.

The tutorial includes everything that can possibly be done to repair WIn7 based on tens of thousands we've helped here successfully, then if it still won't start how to rescue your files and either run Factory Recovery or Clean Reinstall. There are several disks needed for the steps, and alternatives for each of them.

Ok there's a buzzing sound from the PC but the computer's not doing anything it's been sat on a blank screen for the past 20 mins. Should I restart the machine or carry on waiting - as in the past few attempts waiting leads to a restart anyway?

    Cheers

Borrow a PC to burn the Windows Defender CD, Win7 installation DVD for your version given in Step 5, and if needed the Partition Wizard CD. Note that each of these can also be written to a flash stick as discussed in the tutorial.

If efforts at repair fail, I would skip to rescuiing any data using the Installation DVD or flash stick, then do the Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you have problems booting the disk or stick, post back for more help. You can also boot Partition Wizard or DBAN which will boot themselves to wipe the HD- that will force the installer to also boot itself to reinstall.

We need a fuller explanation of the problems you're having. We are not there to see for ourselves. Please give us the steps you are taking and what is happening. We will walk you through it. If I'm not here someone else will pitch in.
