Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space
Help! Please
Hi ADOE and welcome to Seven Forums.
Your problem seems to be that the partition is not formatted to NTFS and there doesn't seem to be any space on it. Please have a look here: Clean Install Windows 7
Do you have any data on the hard drive?
Do you have a different OS installed that is of a different file system by any chance? For example any distro of linux?
Can't remember the exact error, but my brother had a similar issue installing Win 7 and after hours of troubleshooting HDDs, worked out that he had to use a DVD to install 7, trying to install from USB caused that error or something similar
Are you trying to install from USB or DVD ?
How to Remove Linux and Install Windows on Your Computer
Forgot to mention, If you want to retain Linux and choose to modify the existing Linux partitions to allow more room for a Windows partition, Microsoft will not support Windows installed in this manner.
Since you can't shrink the Linux partition while Ubuntu is running (because it is using it), you will need to boot into Ubuntu using a LiveCD or LiveUSB -- and then run GParted to shrink the partition to make some room. Don't format the new unallocated space -- the Win7 installer will let you do that.
