it's off to PC gaming I go :p
Well where to start . I started this thread off in another person's thread and because you are all so great on here with lot's of reply's and input lot's of folk said 'start your own thread in General Discussions so we'd love to help' sort of thing :o here's a link to my old post post 1 post 2
Basically I've been thinking about make the move over to PC gaming for a while because at the moment I just have a laptop which is no longer meeting my needs so instead of getting another laptop I want to get a deasktop ( I love gaming and have a xbox 360 and PS2 ) and the fact that the xbox one isn't even a games console ( in my eye's anyway ) I'm going to kill 2 birds with one stone and make the move over to PC gaming. I don't know what M$ were thinking but that new console is a massive 'BOOB' ...yes I know it's not out yet but it's just not for me I feel games consoles have ..well lost their way a little .
So any way I just don't know where to start, I was going to build a PC but I think considering I only got my 1st PC 2 years ago plus others on here have said buy a mid range gaming PC and upgrade from there when I have the £ , so I just want peoples input. I'm looking at these 3 at the moment apart from one being 6core and the other 2 being 4core I can't tell the difference :o , would they be rubbish to play games or a good starting point .

Hi Juxxize,

I would suggest taking a look at Ebuyer They have a great selection of machines at decent prices, something like this:

Zoostorm Gaming Desktop PC - Desktops | Ebuyer.com

In my opinion would be a good base to start with, others will be able to expand on what is good to start with

Edit: And also im with you with the decision about the Xbox One! A real let down

It would be better if I5 + Good/Decent Graphics card but if budget constraints then... i3 Better Graphics

Now, you do need to be careful because what you may think is a Good GPU (Graphics Card) can be a piece of crap in the reviews... Google is your friend.

Buying Allready-Made is one way to go but you will always pay more and not get the good stuff... it is better to invest a bit more money and headaches and built one yourself... the satisfaction alone from it is ten times better than a good sex marathon day :P

I know what you mean @AstaLaVista I was super wanting to build my own but in researching it I got so overwhelmed I just thought I'm going to have buy a pre-built and up-grade it later and in the process learn more about ......well everything :) I'm a little embarrassed to say this but I only got my 1st PC/ laptop 2 years ago but I have learn sooooo much in that time because it interested me , for example I had 3 friends who's laptop were broke, they had owned some sort of PC for at least 5 years but when their laptops broke I fixed them for them ( I think although they've had a PC / laptop longer than me they have spent their time growing plants on Facebook , you know can even grow 'pot' on Facebook these days but that's another story :roflmao:) anyway :focus: my point is I thought I wasn't stupid when it came to computers but I tell you at the moment I'm seeing Graphics Card reviews in my sleep.
Thanks for your advice I'm so glad to have all your input it's really great because I don't have any friends what are techie types , thank goodness for this forum. As you said @AstaLaVista Google is full of reviews for graphics cards and I know for gaming I need a good one which is separate to the motherboard .
Would that PC listed by Apprentrice5 be better than the 3 I picked out( in my 1st post ) and if you guys just point out why that would be really great to help me , I'm assuming it's the fact the graphics card is better.

Ok so here is my 2 cents...

As others have mentioned, I would really recommend building your own. You will get a better computer for less money. It can be very overwhelming at first but once you organize everything it becomes very clear. Even if you want, you can tell us what your budget is and we can put together a couple of builds that you can choose from. Now when it comes to the actual building of the computer, it can seem very technical and difficult but it is actually the easiest and most fun part. There are plenty of online tutorials and step by step guides that can help you and walk you through every step.

Now if you are set on buying a pre-built computer, there are a few things that can help you out as well. I always recommend looking into buying used or refurbished machines. You can typically find them on any computer website and usally have warrentys as well. The reason why I recommend them is beause they can be anywhere from 40%-60% off the MSRP price of the computer. When it comes to choosing a pre-built PC, the main thing you want to make sure is that the motherboard and CPU are just what you want. The motherboard and processor are typically the parts that you keep the longest and are harder and more expensive to swap out than other components. If you are looking at Intel, I would recommend a i5 Quad-Core or better and my preferred motherboard brand is Asus, but that's just me. :D

Anyways I hope this helps and let us know if you have any more questions or concerns.

-Collin

I can not help you with Pre-Builts sorry. NO, it is because I don't want but more so because I have ZERO experience with them... All I know of them is how much they suck when they get sick :D

Seriously though, you gotta give us a bit more of an explanation as to what you want to do with that PC, what exactly are you playing, SP or MP, does the 450 budget includes monitor, Mouse/KB and Operating system, etc.

As far as a benchmark game, I would say maybe metro last light, but to run it maxed you'd need to dump more on the graphics alone than most people spend on entire builds. -

sorry AstaLaVista for not giving enough info , I don't play multi player now so I can't see me playing multi player when I get a desktop unless something changes so I'd want it for single player playing games and general computing uses , I have a monitor, Mouse/Keyboard already that will do me for now but of coarse it will need an OS ( windows 7 I have no interest in 8 ). I don't really know what else to say . The sort of gamer I'd like to be able to play would the new GTA when it come out, the new assassins creed black flag and assassins 3, dead space 3 , dragon age type of games , the elder scrolls Skyrim , fallout games , saints rows 3, bioshock infinite, sleeping dogs, resident evil 6 and revelations, LA noire , far cry 3 i know it's abit of a miss mash of a games list but I'm just trying to give you an idea of the sort of things I'd be looking at playing.

There you go, thanks to SIW2 now you can search in the UK for a good PC. Now, out of those 450 you have budgeted, the Win 7 OS will take a chunk out of it so I don't know how well you will fair... perhaps it would be a good idea for you to lay low and save a few more quid until you have enough for something that won't let you down right away or in 2 months?

Remember, you are also looking into a rig that may be able to last you for at least a couple (if not a few) years... unless you know that in a few years you will miraculously receive lots and lots of money! ;) :D

I am not much into AMD/ATI (first hand personal opinion) so I am going to advise for this one... First Choice but of course, you need to save more or beg a friend to lend you some money.

I've been between my PS3, 360 and more so recently, PC now since the One came about.
Most of my issue is that it's more of an entertainment center than a console.
So, I've recently started slowly upgrading my PC to accommodate Steam.
I'm not so sure where the future of gaming lies but it certainly isn't with the One on my list.
I'll happily stick to my PS3/360/PC in the coming months considering. :D

A lot of what I see from the next generation of consoles is them trying to setup a medium for impulse buys and micro-transactions to happen faster and more often. Not too mention them being used as marketing tools. This generation of consoles should have been small purpose built pc's, and to some extent they are. It's all the choices that were made after the hardware phase that ruin them for me personally.

The DRM stuff , blocking used games, and related spying would put me off.

I think we have enough spying from big brother already but for me, what boils my blood is the fact that, it is no longer a gaming console as stated before but more of a reality social network show and I will be damn if I am going to shell out 90 bucks for a game (oh its coming) so they can tell me how I can use it or what I can not do after they got my money.

I will play tic tac toe on a piece of paper if I have but I won't give them the satisfaction... :D

It is up to Sony now. Big opportunity for them .

I think they may have already agreed to blocking used games. It is not too late to change that.
