I found the xbox one reveal a REAL turn off so ..........

Hi guys , now more info has come out about the PS4 ( I know I started the thread about the xone but hey-ho ) I must say it gives me a little hope for the future of console gaming , it seems Sony are actually making a 'games console' not a ..... well what-ever the xbox one is supposed to be because it sure isn't what I'd call a games console it's nearly every thing but. Sony are allowing used games sales and you don't need an internet connection to use the console which is great news for consumers, I think anyway.
I still want to get a gaming rig but I need to get some more penny's saved up first but this thread has helped me out in learning about what's important in a gaming rig , so thanks guys .
When I do get a gaming PC I'm looking forward to using Steam because it looks like when the Steam sales are on there are some good deals to be had.

I purchased a 360 on launch day back in 2005, but that won't be happening this time around. I understand what Microsoft is trying accomplish with their strategy, and its similar to Apple's reasoning for not including a micro sd card slot in their iphone.... its about forcing customers to pay more money.

This strategy is why I have a Samsung phone instead of an iphone, and it will be the reason why I own a PS4 instead of the Xbox One. Apple and Microsoft really need to consider taking care of their customers and stop focusing on how much more cash they can pile into their bank accounts.

Common sense should be telling Microsoft that keeping the strategy of the new system similar to the 360 would guarantee a ton of sales and a win in the console wars. But instead they are trying to think of new ways to squeeze a few more pennies out of people. All they are doing is causing the Xbox One to be a total flop before it even hits the market.

Im wondering if this may be a defining moment on the DRM issue.

And by that I mean:
First, we have MS with its DRM method, and Sony saying they will not impose restrictions. You bought it, do what you want with your copy.

So, lets just say the Publishers are on board with MS, and want this to new DRM be the way its done now and in the future.

Lets assume, hypothetically, a large majority of gamers decide they do not want this type of system and will not stand for it.
The result being many move to PS4, and Sony ends up being the console of choice for 75% of gamers, while MS holds only 25%. Give or take a few %

If this were to happen, it would stand to reason the Publishers would have 2 choices. Stick with MS, loose sales and potentially go under. OR, give in to the demand and supply the product without all the restrictions.

On the other hand, if MS does fairly well and the opposite occurs, or even grabs 50% or more of the player base.
It would stand to reason this form of DRM would get more and more strict in the future.
Why? Because they can and they know it.

The result is a bit scary when you think about what it may turn into later down the road. Does it move to PC in some form as well etc ...

Oh you will fall in love with steam, the sales are too good to be true. I'm also looking forward to the ps4, might get one later once it's been out a couple months to see what happens.

I agree with you in all that you have said except the last sentence... unfortunately. :(

Aside from loosing any sense of what money is worth, people have also lost the common sense and these people (MS & Apple, etc,) rather spend millions on Marketing or paying a lobbyist than making a good game work... it is just like I said before, people buy game w/o even researching, then, even after the game can't play well online, they keep on buying the DLC? how can you respect that? I mean, what kind of incentive is there for these companies to do right by the customer? Again, this way of doing business should be illegal to begin with but there you have it

@ wishmaster... very good point indeed.

Now, let me play Devil's Advocate w/o getting all confused myself. ;) What about if this is only a plot by Sony to sell more PS4s, then when the games start to trickle in (we all know the majority of the games are done for the Xbox and then ported, except those proprietary to Sony), the customer gets the short end of the stick because Publishers like Ubi, EA, Activision, etc, do have the DRM implemented like Xbox1? Do you think that Sony will back the customer or backpedal and hide under the... "Well, we did not know that was coming?"

That's a good point. But I thought that the DRM scheme was a "feature" of Xbox's architecture. And Publishers decided to use it or not.

From what I understood about Sony, they have no such thing in place. Just the Disc based DRm, and of course Digital PSN (Steam type DRM)

Perhaps I'm wrong or misunderstood, but if I understood it correctly then I wonder ...

How would a publisher take advantage of the XB One DRM system, and release for both platforms? One supports it the other does not.
It doesn't seem they could other than leave Sony out of the picture.

Maybe Im the one confused here LOL.

One more benefit of steam is humble bundles, most the time they aren't very exciting but every now and then they put up a pack of triple a titles for just a few bucks. It's worth signing on.
There is the primary bundle (usually indie) and a weekly bundle (varies greatly and is where you find most the killer deals when they come)
https://www.humblebundle.com/

right now it's all the serious sam games for 4.41.
EDIT... it's almost like they are intentionally sabotaging themselves.

you-know my boyfriend said the same thing , it's not just the console makers but the game devs and as much as I love their work some of them ( EA springs to mind ) will do anything to squeeze more money out of you like DLC it never comes downs in price even when it's 6 years old for what you get it's very over priced and I don't buy it some DLC it about £14 for maybe if your lucky two hours play nobody in their right mind could think that's a 'good deal'.
So yes only time will tell how the whole used games issues will play out but like you I don't trust these big company's ;)
Also has anyone noticed how completely deflated Don Mattrick in interviews at the moment at e3 it's like he's not even the same man who unveiled the xbox one a few weeks ago he struggles to smile when taking about the new console and has no energy and just seems so fed-up, I think the backlash on community driven platforms like this is much worse then Microsoft could have imagined what do you guys think ? wouldn't it be great if they did a u-turn on some of their features that folk are so mad about but I don't think they will.

So, basically is their way or the highway?

You know, no one man (or Company) should have the power to dictate those terms, then again, that is easily obtainable as long as you are prepared to pay the right people and have the right connections... then, every illegal move can be made into a legal one! :D

Still, if people are willing to sacrifice their freedom in order to be able to play a game, then, what else can we expect.

[/rant over] ;)

As you guys know I love my xbox 360 but as I said for all the other reasons I listed there is no way I'd buy the xbox one but after reading that article I posted even my jaw hit the floor and to think I thought I'd heard all the power crazed money grabbing bad news there was to hear about the xbox one but this bit of news takes the cake . As I said I've never been banned from xbox live but just imagine you've had a bad day and someone on xbox live gets on your nerves and you swear at them ( I know you shouldn't but we're all human ) next thing you know you're banned and as there is no 'real' appeals process that £420 games console you bought a month ago is now a very expensive door stop WOW you'd go crazy wouldn't you because it's bad enough on the 360 but at least you could still play offline the xbox one will be totally useless , plus as you can see from the watchdog report in my other post mistakes do happen and sometimes people get banned by mistake.

So glad I've decided ( when I've saved abit more coin :o ) to buy a gaming PC instead , I'm gonna stick with my xbox 360 for the time being because there are lot's of games I'm yet to play ( I usually don't bother buying games on release or pre-order anyway , I usually wait a few months for them to drop a little in price ) so I've got plenty to play while I try and save up abit more £££.
@taylorig that link you posted was funny :D , it's not that they was using a HP powered, Windows 7 system with Nvidia's 700 series GTX GPU under there but it's the fact that it was running Windows 7 not Windows 8 , ha ha even Microsoft doesn't want to use Windows 8 sooo funny .

you-know my boyfriend said the same thing , it's not just the console makers but the game devs and as much as I love their work some of them ( EA springs to mind ) will do anything to squeeze more money out of you like DLC it never comes downs in price even when it's 6 years old for what you get it's very over priced and I don't buy it some DLC it about £14 for maybe if your lucky two hours play nobody in their right mind could think that's a 'good deal'.

Even if they did, at this point it's too late to undo the damage. The launch will go down this way and it's what everyone will remember either way. I mean they fixed windows vista --eventually but it never overcame the bad impression many people got of it at release. I see the xbox one being the same kind of thing. They can easily fix the problems, they're all software level stuff. I'm not sure doing so would even help them all that greatly at this point. The price difference and performance; they've just been completely outdone by Sony this time.

the turn around
Microsoft have backed I don't believe it , the pre-orders for the xbox one and PS4 must have told a sad tale for microsoft's xbox one. I must say this this makes me happy that they have listened to their customers on these two really big issues.
I'm still going to get a gaming PC tho :)

I seriously think they were looking at a fail on the level of the Jaguar or Cd-I here. I doubt anything less would have changed their position so drastically and quickly. This is less about 'listening to the customers' and more of 'Oh shit! We're totally hosed if we try to get away with this! Abort! Abort! Abort!'.

Still not buying one anywhere near at launch, but I wasn't going to anyway.

However, I might consider it in a few years now because of this reversal. Though, to be honest I'd need this legislation to pass and get rid of HAL before I really considered it. If everything falls into place and the Kinetic is nerfed by legislation, I might actually get one at some point. That is after a price drop if there are enough exclusive games that I can't play on PC available to justify it.

Considering the architecture I kind of doubt it, it was built for easy PC ports to begin with, I don't really care about using Kinetic, and considering how the 360 lineup went, I seriously don't think there will be enough to really justify buying a console for a handful of games. My PC is already quite a bit more than twice as powerful as the Xbox 1 anyway.

I'll be getting a PS4 in a few years probably, as Sony tends to have more actual exclusives that I won't be able to get on PC. Microsoft not so much. No point in getting one at launch as while it does have a Hardware advantage of the Xbox 1, it's still less than half as powerful as my PC and the exclusive line up isn't enough to justify $399 at this point for me.

I'm not totally sure about that, as PS4 games will also be easy ports for PC due to the new architecture as well. We'll likely see more PS4 ports to PC than we did with the PS3. Though, I do think that there will be more 'true' exclusives with Sony's console in the end.

Right now I see no need for either as I'm already beyond 'next gen' to begin with. Still, this has made the Xbox 1 more interesting to me, and I'm pretty sure, but not positive, I'll end up with at least a PS4 sooner or later.

Still not sold on it, but I wouldn't have even remotely considered buying one at any point ever if they'd not reversed this.
