I don't get infected so why would I need it? I know what to avoid so when I switched to Panda Cloud free and it flagged adware in downloads I already knew they were there and had avoided them at install. But this did impress me that Panda is more aggressive.

However those who do get infected for whom I have installed the MBAM trial version and suggested they buy it have never again reported infection.

Thanks for the input. I'll watch even closer tho I get no complaints from over a million who've used Reinstall tutorial. But I don't work in Security.

The way I activate Malwarebytes Premium.

After you get the proper I.D. and code. Mine was emailed to me.

    1. Install the trial version.
    2. Update it completely.
    3. In the upper right corner tick on My Account.
    4. Type in the I.D. and code.
    Done.

For those not so perfect people like me I recommend using Malwarebytes Premium.

I also use Microsoft Security Essentials.

I also use stand alone scans when needed.

The best cleanup is a fresh install of windows.

    Clean Install Windows 7

The 2 free programs Jack mentions are all you need.

Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

    https://www.malwarebytes.org/

    and this

    https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

You DO NOT need any other AV or cleanup utilities on your PC other then these 3 items.

Thanks Ram, but truth is I don't know a Ram bite from a GB bite. I just found out what a browser was today so I am learning,.

Sorry I've been installing a new home theater system here and just got back online. I can either connect to go over your present install via TeamViewer if you install it at all Defaults and private message back to me the ID and password, or once you've done the preparatory steps I can walk you through doing HP Recovery or a Clean Reinstall on the phone and then connect once you get online and install TeamViewer to set it up for you. If you need help backing up or making your Recovery or Reinstall media I could help you do that too once I look over your present install if it still seems indicated.. Let me know which you prefer.

First off, back up files you need to an external hard drive,, flash stick or DVD's by dragging them to the drive in the explorer window, or rightclicking the file, folder or group (created by holding the Cntrl key while selecting files/folders) to Send To the drive. This is demonstrated in this video tutorial: ▶ Copying files to an external drive - YouTube

Once you have your files backed up, you can run HP System Recovery as shown in the blue link. On later model HP's there is a Minimal Recovery that doesn't include all of the preinstalled factory bloatware which interferes with Win7 performance. This will give you nearly a Clean Reinstall, provides all of the drivers and self-activates.

Be sure to make your HP Recovery disks beforehand so you have an alternative Factory Recovery method in the rare case Recovery should fail: HP Creating Recovery Discs or Saving a Recovery Image to a USB Flash Drive (Windows 7) | HP® Support

But I'd also take the time to look over the steps to do a real Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which has helped over a million consumers get the best possible install without a single complaint. Even if you decide not to do that it will provide you with many tips so you don't' forget anything to back up and also become more familar with the tools and methods that keep Windows 7 running best.

Throughout these projects we will be here to help and answer all of your questions. You will learn more about your PC than you ever imagined, able to handle many things yourself in the future.

    Greg:

She needs help to know EXACTLY what file to download at Teamviewer from this list:

    Free TeamViewer Download for Windows

She said in another thread that she tried to download some file at Teamviewer and "it" asked her to uninstall Flash, Malwarebytes, MSE, etc.

I downloaded TeamViewer and was not asked to uninstall anything. ??

She may or may not be on dialup. She may or may not have DSL.

She may or may not have already paid for the paid version of Malwarebytes. She's probably better off with the paid than the free due to inexperience with tech, websites, and browsers.
