7 professional with no sleep?
i inherited a laptop from my wife, which in itself is great. its an older HP compaq, which someone (she bought it used) has installed Windows 7 professional on. anyway, she basicly used it for e-mail and face book. and not much else. i use it for a lot more things, and i am on and off it all day. the problem is there is no way to put this machine to sleep. i have to shut it down after every use, or leave it run all day long. neither of which i am a fan of. i have done all the normal things, tried to set up sleep in the power settings, i even changed the power plan, and i have gone into the advance settings in the power plan. there is no place where i can turn on sleep in the advanced settings. only two check boxes that will enable the computer to be woken up on timers. which in itself seems very odd. i did check the boxes in hopes that mayb it would open a spot where i could enable sleep. but it did not. i also let the computer run all day to see if it ever went to sleep by itself, which i did not. i am lost. can anyone help me figure out what is going on?
