Strange white box with yellow squiggles from sleep mode?

I have an i7-2670qm, with a 2.20Ghz CPU Sony Viao. It's very old as far as laptops are concerned, I know, but only recently have I started having a weird problem.

Sometimes when I open it from sleep mode, there will be a white box with yellow squiggles that appears in the top left corner of the screen. It's very fast, so I've never been able to get a picture of it, and I doubt you can prnt scrn when the a laptop is waking up from sleep mode, but it concerns me. It also sometimes rarely appears while booting up a game that goes into fullscreen mode. I've had this laptop for a long time, and it worries me. I definitely cannot afford a new one that is able to play games, so if this one's goose is cooked, I'm screwed.

A few things to note is that the box is only during the blackness of booting, so it's not on the desktop itself.
Am I doomed? This is eating away at my mind.... I'm utterly terrified to be perfectly honest.

Does no one know what's wrong?

The white box has waves of a yellow/orange-ish color on it now.

Sleep heavily depends on the display adapter. Try updating the driver, or uninstalling it in Device Manager to reboot and have it reinstall.

Make sure you have all patches as older hardware is highly dependent upon them and Win7 has no SP2 so is heavily patched via Updates. Set Updates to Automatic, Receive Recommended Same as Important, then Check for Updates, install all Important and Optional. Watch for a display adapter update. If none check the maker's Support Downloads webpage for latest.

    Set Updates to Automatic

Are you serious ? He`ll be here aasking us why his computer is now Windows 10

I would just re install the video drivers, it`s all you can do, other then re installing windows, if the squiggly lines don`t bother you, don`t worry about it.

Or don`t use hibernation, just use sleep, see if it still does it.

Yes, always have Windows Update set to Automatic. The OS is so heavily patched without an SP2 that one does not even have Win7 without all Important and Optional Updates installed.

There is no indication whatsoever that MS intends to upgrade anyone's Win7 to Windows 10 without their full knowledge and agreement. This is an unnecessary hysteria which is not helpful.

Also if you turn off Hibernation and use only Sleep then the PC will continue to wear RAM indefinitely if the PC is not eventually awakened or Shut Down. This happened where a student went home for summer break and their desktop session was held in RAM for an entire four months with no Hibernate safety net.
