I have 2 monitors connected & often I only need one, such as watching a video, so I just turn one them off at the monitor switch. If I want to leave the computer on for say half an hour while I answer the phone or something I turn the monitors off at their switch.

I also use Turn Display Off after 5 minutes if I get delayed away from the computer.

In this day & age LED monitors power up in a few seconds, not like they were in days gone by.

Monitors are on 24x7. Computers are turned on when in use, and in sleep mode when not. Simple.

I use under Display Surge Protectors. It's not hard to do, just one button.
The simple approach is always the best and most reliable :)
