I checked another computer . It says
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
OS Version: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
OS Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation
C:\>ver
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
The laptop that has issue shows
D:\Windows\System32>ver
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
for some reason it is not picking up the OS Name
I downloaded the SeaTools for DOS and Windows and run test . I find only one (1) drive. It did not find any error.
I am attaching the screen shot of result.
As I mentioned, I have access only using F8 ===> Repair Computer===> Command Prompt ===> Works OK
All other opens leads to black screen with cursor in the middle.
My OS drive is D:
As I do not have a repair CD, I tried your suggestion in F8 ===> Repair Computer===> Command Prompt
Code:
I ran d:\windows sfc/scannow ===> I got
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time
There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart windows and run it again.
Is there a way to override this system repair pending stuff?
It did not create Minidump file in d:\windows
so I ran in repair computer options using
Code:
1) sfc /scannow /offbootdir=x:\ /offwindir=D:\windows
2) sfc /scannow /offbootdir=d:\ /offwindir=D:\windows
I am attaching the zip file that contain CBS.LOG & [SR] tag extract (xxx.txt).
I did not any find ERRORS there, SFC ended with message saying "found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them" . It is misleading. There is no [SR] tag pointing to corrupt files.
I did not find minidump in d:\windows after this sfc run.
I find some message as "00007bff [SR] Beginning Verify and Repair transaction
00007c01 [SR] Cannot repair member file "

I hope this helps.
